I bought this Durango in early 2003 during a close out "sale" of 2002 models. Once summer hit I thought we might die. We live in ARIZONA where 115 degrees is pretty standard all summer long. Well the A/C in this thing not only sucks it is useless. I have taken it to the dealer to be told too bad that's just how they are. We were shopping for a new Dodge work truck for my husband a couple of years ago and I mentioned the problem with this vehicle's A/C to the sales person and the sad thing was he was nodding before I was even half done with my story and explained that 2002 was a bad model year and A/C not functioning properly or shall we say up to snuff was just a fact of owning that vehicle! Needless to say I was infuriated by this particularly when told we had no recourse.

This vehicle is the all time worst purchase I have ever made. We have had more problems than just the A/C but that is the one that is HUGE for us as we live in Az and these are long hot summers. I've owned a Dodge Caravan and a Chrysler LHS in the past and those had great A/C's and no complaints from me. My husbands Dodge Ram work truck also has fabulous A/C... So anyone know if we can just yank the original A/C and replace it with a new and improved A/C to fix this problem?????

We realized that there was a problem the summer we bought our expensive brand new Durango. We were miserably hot in the car. We brought it back to the dealer and complained. They claim they stuck a thermometer into the vents and it read that the air flow was the right temperature. We brought it back a second time and complained. Again, they denied there was a problem. This summer we had a terrible heat wave and driving was almost impossible. My poor kids were soaking wet with sweat every time we drove in the car. (That's with the air blowing on Max A/C)

The Durango has low airflow on outer vents, warm air from vent on cool days, A/C marginally acceptable, this A/C SUCKS! The dealer said "that is how they all are"! I know others who have these, and he is right, THEY ALL SUCK! I believe that the engine heats the firewall causing the vent to discharge warm air. I also believe that the duct design SUCKS SO BAD that the airflow is very low. Closing the lower center vents forces a slight breeze out the outer most vents. The one who designed this should be SHOT! I have a $36,000 hot box... Thanks a lot Mr. Iacoka, probably spelled wrong and I don't care! Chrysler should be ashamed of putting out system like this! I'm 46 years old and have had probably 20 vehicles in my life, this cooling system is the absolute worst of any and it's the most expensive vehicle that I have owned! Don't even get me started on the SUCKY GAS MILEAGE!
