We purchased a NEW 2002 Durango in October of 2002. It's a beautiful truck cosmetically but rating the performance I give it a big fat 0. I will never own another Dodge. At less than 3000 miles I started having problems with squeaky brakes. Not occassionally, constantly. Took it in for check up and I was told that this was "normal" for Dodges, that when the brakes were broke in, it would go away... to appease me they said they could lubricate them to quiet them down. This worked for about a month. They squeaked only occassionally until August when I noticed increased noise and started to feel a vibration in the brake pedal when stopping. Back to the dealer and was told that I needed pads and rotors turned. Mind you this is right at 10,000 miles and a brand new truck. My husband flipped out, made an appt with the service drive manager and demanded the rotors be replaced and an explanation for why we needed pads already? He was told that perhaps it was "driving habits" that maybe we "rode" the brakes..... alrighty then. We had new pads and rotors put on and last Wedensday at 11,000 miles we were back in the Service drive with horribly embarrassing squeaky brakes! Now we are told that the caliper slides were misaligned and needed lubricated. We spoke at length with the service advisor who clearly stated that squeaky brakes are a common problem and they sure are willing to help us with our frustrations.... they kept the car overnight, test drove it all the next morning and felt that the alignment of the caliper slides and lubrication would remedy our problem. Today is Saturday, three days later and the brakes are .... squeaking again, just like when we took it in. My next phone call will be to a different dealer and if that doesn't resolve things, my lawyer.
