Two times the steering has gone out entirely after making a 90 degree turn and the power brakes went out too. The second time we immediately took to service but they could not find anything wrong. All fluid levels were ok. It is a serious intermittent problem. Turning the car off and on brings it back to normal. Anybody know whether there is a recall?

Okay, this is the second time my Durango lost power and steering. This time it was VERY dangerous because I was going around a sharp corner at 20 mph and went off road. Thank goodness my kids weren't with me, and no other cars to run into. If I put it in park, re-set and turn the key the engine will start right back up. I noticed there was 2 investigation on this by the National Traffic Safety Board, both issues were closed. Will take to the dealership along with a print off of the two investigations from 2005-2007, and see what comes of it

Durango XLT 5.7L

I purchased my vehicle pre owned. I was very happy with my Durango for a couple months. Then after an accident I had my engine replaced with a 2005 dodge engine. Since then my vehicle looses power completely. I lose the power steering, acceleration and brakes but I still have the radio and all lights on they never go off. I find it most at my child's daycare, to enter there is a right turn then and incline and a left turn. As soon as I make that left turn all power is lost. Dodge cannot replicate my problem and see nothing on the diagnostic test either. Any solutions? Why does my car keep stalling out but not the lights or radio just the acceleration and brake pedals and power steering is disabled. If I put the vehicle in park and turn the ignition off then restart the vehicle everything is fine. This is beyond annoying. What is going on here?

It was night, pouring rain and I turned a corner in a parking lot. The power steering just stopped. I coasted to a stop turned the car off and back on. The power steering came back up like normal.

Rack and pinion failure. Supposedly not under any kind of warranty, Lithia Dodge in grants pass oregon was charging more to fix it than Les Schwab. Then they turned around and charged Les Schwab more for the part than they were going to charge me..... This is outrageous !!! This is a 2004 Durango, yes it has alot of miles but still should have been under some kind of warranty. The extended warranty that I paid $1000.00 for was just up !!!!!!!!!!! I will never buy another Dodge !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I lost all power in the car for a few seconds while turning. the power did come back, but it was definately scary as I was turning from a busy street and if I had not gotten out of the way quickly, I definately would have been hit. I've seen that this is a problem being investigated, but if it's not reported they won't know how common a problem it is.
