  • 89,000 miles
I bought my Durango at a used dealers. It had 56000 miles one owner, 2010, center column panel over heated and you could smell plastic burning. The radio shut off the air condition controls well actually everything was so hot you had to turn off truck to let that center panel cool down before you could turn them off, the next thing I started hearing a bad shifting noise and it banged really loud like from the rear end I assumed. No matter if you were driving slow or fast the truck would downshift and sounding like a rod or something was going to come through the floor. I have all of the maintenance down when was told but this didn't help at the time the downshifting started it was 90,000 miles, now I am at 93,000 -or 98,000 miles and something is really knocking to me I thought it might have been a fan hitting the radiator but not the case, it also stalls out in the rain and engine wont start until after rain has stopped, it stalls out on sunny days for no reason. You still here a thud noise or it downshifting hard at 15 miles an hour or if you go any speed it continues to down shift shaking the vehicle. The windshield washer button broken off from under the hood the rubber around the hood keeps falling off inside panel lights are shorting out. Whats wrong with this truck good care fantastic vehicle love it but it has issues bad issues. Not drivable 930000#

My 2004 Dodge Durango stalls frequently...almost daily. I took the vehicle to the dealer after the first incident and the technicians were stumped and seemed unaware of the issue, which I have since learned is not uncommon. The stalls frequently occur at parking lot speeds, but have occurred while doing 50 km/hr and while under power. The higher speed stalls are a concern as the stall also kills power braking and steering. To restart the vehicle, you have to put it in N and turn ignition. So far, that has worked each time, but at speed this can be a little unnerving to say the least. Dodge stated that a eec flash was available, but that it did not address stalling, only shifting issues and therefore it was not required. Dodge has so far indicated there is nothing that can be done. I am dating the information below with the most recent incident because it was the first time it has occurred at higher speed, but it has been stalling without warning at least once a day for the last 2 weeks.

Dodge Durango 2004 lost all function pulling into parking lot. Lost engine, brakes, steering, electrical. Liken it to a power plug being pulled out and instantaneous loss of all control. Was able to restart without mishap. Took it to nearest Dodge dealership only to no avail. They couldn't find anything wrong. Took the car home only to have it happen the very next morning again during deceleration to a street light. Took it to a different Dodge dealership. Found nothing wrong.but changed the battery in the event low voltage was the issue. Power cut out again during a deceleration and turning a slight right at a fork in the road. This time with entire family onboard. Loss of steering, and brakes. But instrument panel stayed lit. And all heat radio. Will not try driving again until solved. Note: Nothing was done to the car before incidents started to occur. No oil change, car wash, pothole, break-in. Nothing. Lost all faith in "certified" Dodge mechanics as they can't even look up the issue and confirm similar occurrence. I've found several via limited internet search. No solutions however.

Dodge 2004 Durango stalled while taking a right turn onto side street. Unable to finish turn or got off the road. I was panicked, found flashers to turn on, then instructed to by helpful passerby to turn key off, and restart car. This worked, hasn't happened again. I take this very serious, my young, new drivers, children are able to drive this vehicle and wouldn't know what to do if this happened to them. I want this taken care of at Dodge expense. Mary West.

While sitting at a red light the vehicle stalled. I put it in park and it started right up. There was no sign of running rough before the stall, it just was idling and cut out. A week later on the highway at approx. 60 mph the vehicle bucked like it wanted to stall but didn't. it did this three times in less than a minute. I accelerated and it seemed to help.

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle would shift gears automatically. When the vehicle was in reverse, it would shift into drive and the shifter light on the instrument panel would flicker. Most recently, when the vehicle was placed into park, it began to move forward. As a result, the vehicle struck a pole. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The speed was unknown. The current mileage was approximately 75,000 and failure mileage was approximately 74,500.

Veh problem on 1/1/08 -- 2004 Dodge Durango www.datatown.com/Chrysler/ 1/3/08: Called Chrysler dealer ' 1-800-992-1997 spoke to amy (ref 17081406 (id#AJ267) she requested the vehicle id no ' the last eight ' I gave her ' she ask what our address was and telephone number ' I gave it to her. She asked if I contacted the shop where I get it serviced at ' I said, no I was contacting you first. I told her I wanted to see if this was covered under the 7 year/70,000 mile warranty ' she said, I did not have that ' I said yes I did that's what made us buy the vehicle. She said to contact the place where we bought it from ' in roxborogh - she said, what problem are you having. I told her that the problem started when I got the recall fixed for instrument cluster. We had wiring harness to the 8 cyclinder. Then the oil light came on. But I did not need any oil ' I get my oil done regularly. Three days later the Dodge started revving very high like someone is pushing on the pedal. The car jerks and the engine light is on now. She put me on hold to check the warranty information. Spoke to leslie, supervisor. She told me there is nothing they could do for me ' what you do out side of Chrysler is your problem. I told her there is all sorts of notes on line from people having problems with engines and transmissions. She said, there was no recalls on this.

2004 Durango limited stalled while braking twice. Stalled once at a stop light. Has the 5.7L hemi engine with 50K miles. Took it to dealer to have it looked at. Was told they could not get it to stall and we would have to keep an eye out for it. Then I found the tsb on line detailing the issue. Thus I find it odd that the dealer didn't know about the issue: Tsb # 18-013-05 NHTSA action number EA05018.

Our 2004 Dodge Durango was in our driveway in park, the engine turned off, radio on, both front doors open and keys still in the ignition. The truck had been sitting there for 5 minutes or more till I got my neighbor to help me unload a grill out of the back. My wife hopped into the passenger side to turn the radio down when the truck began to roll forward while in "park". my wife was knocked out of the truck and was hurt badly on her leg and it ran into my neighbor's car then rolled into the street. I ran after the truck to stop it from going any further, I stepped on the brake then looked at the shift handle and it was still in "park".

We purchased our Durango new in 8/04. On 9/ 9/04 the truck started, but died while I was backing out of my garage. We had to have it towed to the dealership. They stated it needed an update performed on the computer system. It happened again on 9/24/04 and then in Oct. It had to be towed and they claimed that they apparently did not get the update completed or done properly. We began noticing then that the truck felt as if it was surging or almost skipping a gear. Multiple people from the dealership test drove it on multiple occasions. We were told that we were just feeling more w/ this vehicle because it was such a smooth ride compared to most 4WD vehicles. Does that make sense? we finally gave up. Now on 3/ 25/06 the truck died while in park in a parking lot. That same night it surged as I pulled out into traffic. W/in a few hundred yards I stopped at a light and when I attempted to accelerate it was as if the truck was going to die. On the morning of 3/28 the truck surged and when I attempted to turn the truck it died in the middle of the road. The next day it died on the way to the dealership. They kept the truck for about a week, stated they hooked it up to the computer and it showed nothing was wrong, drove it for about 30 miles during that time w/out incident. Now it has died again while I was pulling into my garage. I am tired of being told there is nothing wrong. A vehicle should not just die while you are going down a road w/out any warning. At no time have we had any lights come on the dash advising of a problem. It is very disturbing to think that Chrysler is okay w/ us driving our families around in these vehicles. I have three small children that I tote around in this vehicle and it is not very comforting to know that it will die unexpectedly.

I bought a 2004 Dodge Durango in November 2004. VIN [xxx]. [xxx]. I have had numerous problems with the vehicle, including the vehicle silently ceasing to operate. This has happened 3 times in motion, very nearly causing very serious motor vehicle crashes. 1 occurrence happened while stationary and in park. All of this has happened in the 1st year of ownership. Additionally, the vehicle failed to come out of park numerous times; when placed into drive, failed to engage and would simply idle; and had numerous electrical quirks that are not safety related. Each time we have taken the vehicle into the dealer, simply to be told "unable to duplicate." Just recently, we were told Chrysler was aware of the vehicle ceasing to operate without warning while driving. We were told Chrysler refused to acknowledge the issue or fix it, and have been pressuring dealerships to send the vehicles back out with the customer in the same unsafe and deadly condition. Chrylser refuses to acknowledge us or the problem, and 3 times now my family has been placed in peril because Chrysler won't recall these defective vehicles or spend money to fix them. Shortly after purchasing a new vehicle and when descending downhill the automatic transmission slipped. It felt as if it slipped into neutral. This occurred with or without the cruise control switch on. The consumer took the vehicle to a dealer, who test drove the vehicle and determined this was normal. The consumer felt this was a safety issue, and the transmission did not maintain a steady pace. No repairs or corrections have been made. The consumer has not contacted the manufacturer.

Not reporting a failure or incident, just a poorly manufactured vehicle with an inherent problem that the dealer/company was aware of but did not disclose at time of purchase, nor do they have a fix for it. Just a shrug of the shoulders.
