- please refer to NHTSA action number : EA05018.the contact purchased a 2005 Dodge Durango on or about March 2005 with an odometer reading of 10 miles. The contact stated that on February 15, 2007 a fire began on the vehicle's dashboard. The vehicle was driven early in the morning, then parked for 2 hours. The contact went out a second time, and that waswhen the fire was noticed. The vehicle was towed to don weirs reno Dodge on February 16, 2007. An investigator from Dodge was ask to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was stored at the dealer from February 16, 2007 to the present. The contact received a call from the investigator on February 20, 2007 regarding the fire. A representative from daimler Chrysler called on February 26,2007 who said that it was not an aftermarket defect, but a manufacturing defect and would be covered under the warranty. The contact was faxed a letter from daimler Chrysler, in which daimler Chrysler agreed cover the cost of the repairs to the vehicle if the contact agreed to not to pursue this matter in court after repairs were done, and to exclude daimler Chrysler of any additional liability. The contact filed a complaint against daimler Chrysler because of this letter. The current and failure mileage were both 35,000.

The airbag light continued to come on. The vehicle has been to the dealer numerous times. There have been no crashes. This was a brand new vehicle. Repairs were done on the ignition switch and instrument cluster. This was thought to be related to the reason why the air bag light continued to come on. The air bags had not deployed. The light for the passenger's side airbag and the driver's side continued to illuminate intermittently. The vehicle is currently at the dealer for this problem. Updated 12/27/05.

The vehicle caught on fire on August 3, 2005. The interior dome light was stuck, and that was the only indication there was a problem. The fire department came and put out the fire., it originated from dashboard around steering column. The dealership was suppose to have specialist come out, but they have not looked at it yet.
