While driving the rpms will jump around. Then when slowing down or at a stop the engine will stall out. This has usually happens going about 34-50 mph and it stalls leaving you unable to turn. Very dangerous. They have reprogramed computer and replaced throttle positioner. It has occured around 5 times just in the past week. It started out doing it once every couple months now it will do it within feet of restarting. I have to stop, put in park, and restart.

Durango 8-cyl

  • 80,000 miles
This vehicle on numerous occasions shuts off while moving down the road. Started out only during slow speeds, but has started to do it while actually cruising down the road. No warning, just total loss off steering, brakes and engine. Luckily it has cranked back up and able to get out of the road. I also have had on several occasions the temperature gauge indicate that the engine was overheating and the car will just rev up and lose power. I have had everything checked (fluids, oil pump, radiator, plugs and wires etc) and find nothing wrong. Of course nothing will be wrong until the engine blows, which then can be fixed at my expense. Another problem to add to the list is the liftgate acuator stopped working which has made it impossible to open the rear hatch. The plastic gear in the motor is broke but you have to buy the whole part to fix it.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving 25 mph and making a left or right turn, the vehicle stalled. When the vehicle stalled, there would be no power steering, brakes or electrical power. There were no warning lights prior to the failure. The contact called the dealer who stated that they would not be able to repair the vehicle if they could not duplicate the failure. The contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango 5.7 hemi that my husband and I purchased at the end of May 2010. I have only had 5 months and after the first month it stalled on me. The first time it happened I was in a parking lot and went to start it and it wouldn't start. Took 3 times until it did start and stay started. A month later it happened again only this time it shut off while I was driving with my husband and 3 kids. Luckily I was on a back road and was only going 10 mph. So I was able to stop and restart it. It started up fine that time. The third time I was in another parking lot and it wouldn't stay started when I tried to start it. Took another 3 times before it did. The last time it happened was today, October 22, 2010. I was on my way home from taking my kids to school and tried to turn to go up the hill to my street when I realized I couldn't turn or stop cause my vehicle cut off again and I lost complete control since I had no power steering or brakes. I almost went into the ditch but luckily was able to stop since I wasn't going very fast. This was my last straw since if I do wreck it will be my fault and I will have to pay for it since there is no recall out on this situation. I have had it looked at and no one knows what it wrong and thinks I am crazy since it can't be recreated. After seeing how this has been reported since 2005, as long as the gas tank has been reported and got recalled, that this isn't recalled. This is completely dangerous!!!! I have 3 kids and this can cause an accident and hurt someone or even possible kill someone!!! I don't want my kids to die before something gets done. I have reported this and called Chrysler and reported it and I suggest everyone do the same! call 18009921997. If we can report this enough, maybe it will raise attention to someone to do something. I am fearful to drive this truck and even more fearful for my kids to be in it and it is suppose to be our family car. If I get in a wreck I will get a lawyer and I will sue them.

My 2005 Durango has been shutting completely off while I am driving it. This has been going on for approximately one year intermittently. I have had it to the mechanics numerous times and they are unable to locate a problem. I fear for my safety and the safety others as I never know when my SUV will shut off. I have found a website that other people have posted exactly the same complaint that I have concerning their Dodge Durango's. the link is www.carcomplaints.com/Dodge/Durango/1999/electrical/vehicle_shuts_down_without_warning.shtml.

  • 60,000 miles
2005 Dodge Durango with 5.7 hemi engine will shut off without warning while driving. Does not throw a code so the dealer can't find the problem. Most times it will re-start but sometimes takes several attempts before restarting. Sometimes it happens more than once a day, sometimes a couple of times a week....need help to get Dodge/Chrysler to do something about the problem. Bought new in 2005 and didn't start having trouble until 2008.

I was driving my 05 Dodge Durango with my 2 year old in his carseat in the backseat and had just turned left into a parking lot, while in the parking lot the engine stalled (shut off) causing loss of power steering as well. Coasted into a parking stall and was able to restart the engine. Very unsafe and apparently very common in this year, make, and model.

Durango

  • 121,968 miles
While commuting this morning to work, I was approaching a stop light at approximately 35 mph, as I started to brake, I noticed my brakes were not working properly, at that point I realized my engine had shut off and I had lost my power brakes/power steering. As this has happened multiple times in the past with no warning - as it did this time, I knew I could put my engine into neutral and re-start my engine. Luckily I was not in any sort of serious traffic and had plenty of room to get my vehicle to the side of the road to avoid any accidents. I have attempted to address this issue with the past with Dodge and have had no success. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed.

Durango 4WD 8-cyl

The vehicle stalls out at low speeds. So when you are at a stop light or slow down to turn or are in a parking lot, it stalls. When this happens, you can't steer because that only works with the car running. This started right after the 3 year warranty was over and has continued through today. They also didn't fix the recall item and I have fuel spills every time I set the nozzle on automatic and it is supposed to shut off. It does not shut off because the gauge is defective. Now I have a spot under the fuel fill that was eaten away by gas and it is now rusty.

Loss of power when getting on freeway. Engine chugs, rough idle, no power to merge with traffic on freeway. Check engine light came on. Checked codes and found P0308 and P2099. Changed all 8 spark plugs, plugs 4, 6, 8, 3, 5, and 7 show sings of setting in water. Found out Dodge has two service bulletins to keep this from occurring, sb 18-006-05 rev a and 18-024-06. Do we need crashes on the freeway before we can force Dodge to fix this on all 2004 and 2005 Dodge Durango with the 4.7 L engine.

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango and it keeps stalling and shut down. Everytime I slow down and go into reverse the car shuts off. The RPM goes crazy, sometimes, then the car shuts off. The dealership has yet to figure out what's wrong with it. I have gone back and forth with them and they can't tell me what's wrong with the car. They have fixed so many sensors they can't get it right. Car keeps stalling either way. I need a solution. This is a deadly situation waiting to happen.
