In the winter of 2020 i had to use my 4wd lock in my durango. It never come out of 4wd lock. As a former ase technician and auto center manager I have to say dodge has a mess on their hands. 1st off its ridiculous to stop the flow of technical information to the owners of chrysler vehicles due to globalization!? I have been working on this vehicle for months as my patience allows. All testing and troubleshooting place the issue back into electrical issues within these durangos. This is a dangerous problem so many people own older dodge & chrysler products affected by this transfer case problem, recall it and get it done! Now it has to go to a chrysler dealer to have the codes cleared by a dodge scanner. Issue with that is the local dodge dealer in the village i live is not known for honesty. I took my durango there when i had issues with security system. I was told it would need a $1000. computer to start, then maybe another $1000. I took it home put a security module in it, been driving it since. Hold Chrysler accountable, do something for these thousands of people who own nice looking nice running dodge products they can't drive due to transfer case issues, and its not just one issue, there are several issues & components in that system that are troublesome!!

The 4WD svc light will come on at random while driving down the highway at various speeds. Sometimes it will be shifting into 4X4 on it's on and when I make a turn, I can feel the 4X4 working without ever physically turning it on. Other times, I can hear the transfer case motor making noise for about 2 seconds when I open the door or press the key fob button. I pulled a trouble code of C1404. Further research of this code and issue results in over 500 complaints online. It seems to be a common problem that should be fixed by the manufacturer before there is an accident. This just started on my 2006 Dodge Durango on 01/11/2021

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shut off and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted. Also, while filling up the fuel tank, the pump clicked off at approximately half a tank without filling up the vehicle. The contact stated that when she attempted to continue filling up the tank, fuel spewed from the nozzle. The failures recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to haddad Dodge Ram (661-241-8095, located at 3000 harris rd, bakersfield, ca 93313) where it was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 16V352000 (air bags) and NHTSA campaign number: 15V313000 (air bags). The contact stated that the technician did not reveal the recall parts that were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failures recurred and the air bag indicators illuminated occasionally after the recall repairs were performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not provided.

My Dodge Durango will engage by itself into 4 wheel drive while driving at slow or very high speed-it is an issue with the transfer case electricly-could cause accident when this does it on it's own out of nowhere & many complaints have been filed about this issue-it does it at stopping, going slow or even at 75 mph

Transfer case motor actuator engages upon unlocking the doors using the wireless remote entry remote, also when using my trunk opening button from the remote sometimes the transfer case motor will actuate the truck will sometimes shift itself into 4 wheel lock and 4-wheel low sitting at a red light while I'm in drive this cannot happen at speed it creates an immediate safety concern because it can create a complete loss of power to the vehicle causing an imminent crash. By the transfer case engaging 4-wheel drive when the vehicle is at highway speeds it creates a violent collision between the transmission output shaft and the input shaft of the transfer case causing transmission and and transfer case failure and loss of power to the vehicle what can cause a collision this has been an ongoing issue for years from 2002 at least 2008 Dodge Durangos and Dodge Ram I am a Ford stst senior master certified technician and I cannot believe that this issue has not been addressed by the government yet this is completely uncalled for and Dodge needs to be held responsible for the electrical problems related to this malfunction the problem lies within the electrical wiring in the module between the 4 wheel drive switch inside the cab of the truck and the body control module then it's splices off and piggybacks to the transfer case control module somewhere between those three legs there is a problem whether it be in the module the wiring or both and it needs to be addressed immediately. Beings that I am a technician, I have already replaced my transfer case control motor actuator and fully examined all the wiring running to it and from it and found no shorts to ground no frayed wires or ground faults this is simply a computer related malfunction and during the malfunction it does not throw a dtc for a check engine light so there's for a tech to scan.

Transfer case can be heard engaging even when vehicle is locked and unoccupied. Engaging is sometimes triggered by the remote when locking/unlocking doors. 4 lo light started to flash then my back wheels locked up when I was driving 70 mph on the bypass with children in the truck. It is a miracle we didn't roll over, but another truck was forced off of the road while I used two lanes to try to control the Durango. I took the truck to the dealer and no one could find anything wrong with it (no active code)... it drove fine for a few days then the srvc 4X4 light came on and the truck switched into neutral while trying to cross a street... I couldn't move in the middle of a busy intersection. Towed the truck to the shop. Shop stated they didn't know what to fix. Still no active code, truck seems fine. I drove it a few more days and now it has slipped into a lower gear. Cannot travel over 35 mph.. parking, reverse and tight turns are very difficult. My take off speed is nearly nonexistent. Truck shifted back into neutral on its own as I was making a right hand turn. I shut off and restarted the truck three times. All three times it sounded like a stun gun sparking behind my dash and it lit up with a white light from inside. The instrument panel cluster has failed. Recall G07: Instrument panel cluster: Known to overheat and catch fire. The recall was performed on my truck in 2007, there was no warranty on the replacement part. Dealership will not help. I am so sorry I bought this truck. Please... why is Chrysler only responsible for fixing a recall one time/vehicle? they know it will fail again. It did, has and will continue to fail. Numerous owners have the same problem... replacing transfer cases, cpu modules and their problems do not go away because their problem is a difficult to diagnose recalled instrument panel cluster that will never code and tell on itself.

My 2006 Dodge Durango stalled out in the middle of traffic and caused me to be injured in a rear end collision because my PCM shut my engine down per design of the vehicle because my oil sending unit had a faulty wire and my PCM thought I didn't have any oil in my car which disabled my car completely by design of the manufacturer to keep my engine from damage because it thought I had. O oil. I have a faulty design product and not enough warning. I have been off work for a year with the injuries from the accident and luckily I wasn't hurt worse. My vehicle kicks in and out of 4WD whether it is parked or being drove. The vehicle has done this for the past 2 years and the dealership says they have no idea why this is happening. I know when you look up the issues that I am having online, they are a lot of people having this same issue. Dodge should have to fix this problem, it is should obviously be a recall problem, there customers should not be responsible for this.

While driving my Durango will just shut off (it doesn't run rough or sputter, it just shuts off) leaving me with no power steering or braking. I will coast to the side of the road, put it in park, then try to start it again. Most times it will start right up and other times it may take 2 - 5 minutes. This will happen about once or twice a month for the past couple of years. Otherwise it runs fine before and after it shuts off on me. One oddity that I notice is that all the gauges seem to work fine except the speedometer drops to 0 even through I am still coasting along. The engine light does not come on during this. This is very dangerous as I have almost hit other cars before since I loose my steering and braking abilities.

The traction light and service 4WD lights stay on, you can hear the 4WD kicking in and out when the car is sitting the driveway. Dodge acts like they have no idea what is causing this problem. You can google the symptoms and everybody that has a 04 to 06 Dodge is having the same issue. This should be something covered under a recall, there is to many people having the same issues.
