Starting about 3-4 months ago, whenever gas tank is filled, gas gushes back out of the vehicle, even after the pumping stops. We've had this happen numerous times at several different gas stations. This causes waste and a safety hazard, as it usually spills down the side of the vehicle and spews onto whoever filled the tank. Vehicle has less than 35K miles on it.

I am the proud owner of a 2006 Dodge Durango. However, every time I fill the gas tank, fuel spews from the tank once the pump kicks off. This occurs 100% of the time regardless of the service station or pump used, setting up a potential fire hazard and hazardous waste situation at the service station. Due to the severity of this condition and number of complaints filed (28 on one site), I'm shocked that there has been no investigation or recall issued. I have resorted to stopping the pump well short of filling the tank, which is impractical on long trips.

I recently purchased a used 2006 Dodge Durango limited. The vehicle now has about 33,500 miles on it. Whenever I completely fill the tank with gasoline, it overflows. Gasoline is sprayed onto the person pumping the gas and down the side of the vehicle. This is very dangerous. We no longer fill the gas tank completely in order to avoid the problem, but this is not an ideal solution and it still occurs randomly. I understand that there are recalls on earlier models (2005) but so far have not received a notice on our vehicle. I think this is a very dangerous situation and would like to have Chrysler/Dodge expand this recall to later models.

The dealer stated that a new fuel tank was needed. Through online research, the contact found numerous complaints for the same failure he was experiencing. He believes a recall should be issued. The failure mileage was 6,000 and current mileage was 15,000.

When filling the fuel tank, a large quantity of fuel spews out at the end. This started ~6 months ago, and now happens every time the tank is filled. It has happened at a number of different gas stations / pumps. This appears to be the same issue as described in a 2005 Durango recall, however 2006 vehicles are not covered in the recall. All equipment is original (no parts replaced).

The dealer stated that the issue could not be repaired under warranty and would cost $1,400. There is a recall regarding this fuel system issue for the 2005 Durango, but not the 2006. The contact feels that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repairs since there is a recall for the previous year. The current mileage was 47,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.

Every time I fill up my 2006 Dodge Durango, the gasoline nozzle shuts off when the tank is full but the vehicle still "spits" out roughly a half gallon of gasoline all over the ground, vehicle and the person filling the tank. I have tried many gas stations to be sure that it is not the pump and have verified that it is the vehicle. In my research and discussions with Dodge dealers, it seems that a recall was issued for 2005 models for this exact issue, but they fail to issue one for the 2006 model. I called DaimlerChrysler and they refused to do anything about it. The mechanic says that it will cost roughly $800 to have the fuel tank replaced and get the problem fixed. I find this unreasonable as this is a manufacturer defect and a potentially serious safety hazard. As a firefighter, I have experience with fuel spills and the definite potential for a large fire as a result of a small fuel spill such as this. In addition to the danger of fire there is also a potential for aspiration of gasoline liquid or fumes as a result of the gasoline spewing out at the person filling the tank. This could cause potential death if it occurred. I personally have had the gasoline spew out and got a drop in my eye, requiring me to run to the bathroom and flush my eye out. The spills have also ruined articles of my clothing and will eventually ruin the paint on my vehicle.

Fuel tank overflow I have a 2006 Dodge Durango that I absolutely "love" except the fact that the past 2 months has developed a problem. Every time I fill up with gas (even at different stations), my gas tank over fills and gas is "gushing" out and a good amount is lost. My concern is not so much the expense in waste of extra gas I need to pay for. But, I have gas dripping down the side of my truck and in between my bumper fascia. And, this also causes a great scent of gasoline that also somehow gets into the vehicle, and lingers for quite a bit of time afterwards. I hate the smell of gas. I now fill up when I do not have MY3 kids in the truck due to the smell and gas fumes are known to cause cancer. I have done some research and discover a recall id# 58886 which seems to describe the same exact situation I am having. Unfortunate for me, this recall was for 2005 Dodge Durango's and not 2006. I have also been on the phone with Dodge about this problem many times they keep telling me they never heard of the problem keep telling them same problem as the O5. I would like to have this situation investigated. I would like to request a recall for 2006 Dodge Durango's be considered as well. It does make me feel a little better knowing I am not alone with this problem. This is still a consistent problem that really, for safety reason must be resolved. Unfortunately, there are many inconsiderate people that I have come across at gas stations that take pleasure in discarding their lit cigarettes onto the ground. And, I will be very upset (if I was to live) if that ignited light came in contact with gas that has spilled out of my vehicle. I greatly thank you for taking the time to read my concern. Gas spews out of the gas tank after filling the tank at the pump. Same issue was found on the 2005 Dodge Durango and fixed by Dodge. Approximately 1/2 to 1 full cup of gas shoots out during fill-up.

When fueling my vehicle, the fuel overflows at the end of the fill-up spitting approximately 1 pint of gas each time. The condition occurs when the tank is shown as empty or partially empty (I.e. 1/2 tank). In addition, the issue occurs whether I manually hold the gas pump lever or place the pump lever on its automatic latch. The problem has become consistent over the past 2-3 months while it only occurred a few times in the past 2 years that I have owned the vehicle. I just took the vehicle to the dealer for review and they have indicated that they could not duplicate the issue, 3/19, and on 3/22 the fuel spitting occurred during fill-up once again.

Gas spews out of the gas tank filler hole before topping off. This happens at every gas station. The automatic shut off on the gas pumps do not detect that the tank is nearing full. Manually filling very slowly still causes gas to gush back out of the filler hole. Service at Dodge dealership said it might be the tank breather, but the did not repair.
