The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. No repairs were performed. The current mileage was 103,000 and the failure mileage was 24,000.

The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 05V034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap) but did not confirm if the vehicle was included in the recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. The current mileage was 69,000 and the failure mileage was 68,000.

We purchased this vehicle from a used car dealership 12-31-2111 after driving it to the gas station to fill it up I encountered a problem. The fuel pump shut off when the Durango was full but immediately after the gas came spraying out of the tank but the pump was off. It sprayed gas all over side of the vehicle and all over me and my clothes it was awful. This has happened 3 times so far and we have owned the vehicle for 3 weeks. After researching online we discovered there is a problem with the tank that crysler/Dodge knows about it but there is no recall yet for this year of the Durango

When filling the vehicle up with gas, the sensor to stop the gas pump does not work. Result is an overflow of about.5 gallon of gas to spill on the exterior of the vehical and ground below.

When refilling the fuel tank the nozzle on the hose from the gasoline dispenser does not click on and stop the flow of fuel once the tank is full resulting in approximately 8 ounces of gasoline being regurgitated back out of the tank and onto the side of the vehicle onto the person standing there fueling the car and then onto the ground. In my opinion this poses a grave safety hazard in that this overflow may ignite and injure the person filling the vehicle plus cause a rather large fire when the vehicle and surrounding items at the station also go up in flames.this has happened at several different filling stations and I was advised last Friday (1/13/2012) by an attendant at T sam's club filling station that this is a common occurrence for Durangos of the age of mine. I stopped by avondale Dodge (where I purchased the vehicle new) on my way home to discuss this problem and they gave me a 800 number to call that I've been getting a run around about the problem so far.

When I go to the gas station to put gas in I can only put a 1.50 in and the pump kick off and gas come out I wait for a little bite and it will take 2.00 and tit does the same thing again it come right back out.

Repair plus labor would be at least $800. Contacted Dodge Chrysler by email, was called that day. Excellent pr but was told there was no recall at this time for this problem, . there have been other complaints of this problem but not enough to do a recall. Told if I pay the first $200 they would cover the rest, if a recall happens I would be reimbursed this cost. I do not feel that anyone owning this vehicle should be responsible for the cost of this defective regardless of mileage on car. This is a factory defective not caused by ownership. I believe this is a safety hazard, does something serious have to happened to someone and their car before this is taken care of?

Gas overflow safety issue. When filling up the tank, the safety vavle in the gas tank fails and does not shut the pump off. Due to this, gasoline spurts out of the tank. Approximately 5 cups of gasoline spurts out. Most recently, my daughter filled up our tank and the gas spurted out on her. This is both a safety issue and an enviromental issue.

I have a 5.7 hemi and the problem just started with fuel splashing out after a fill up, pump clicks off, remove the fuel nozzle and out of the vehicle fuel fill gas shoots out and all over. Maybe a pint or quart of gas, hard to measure when it's all over you, the ground and car..... I also called my Dodge dealer and my VIN was not part of the recall.

Around August 10, 2011, as I was getting fuel it sprayed fuel everywhere after the nozzle had stopped. I have even tried to slow the rate of fuel and that does not matter. Every time I fill up the tank, it sprays everywhere. I tried different gas stations and still no luck. This poses a safety hazard as all of the fuel spilled on the vehicle, the ground, and on my clothes.

There is a known issue of fuel overflow with 2nd generation Dodge Durango that Dodge refuses to issue a safety recall to fix. At the conclusion of refueling approximately 0.25 gal will gurgle to forcefully eject itself from the fuel filler neck of the Durango. Was filling up 06 Dodge Durango and fuel will flow out violently after the fuel nozzle shut off was activated. There was about quart or more fuel splashed out of the fuel nozzle of the car. There is even a rust spot on the driver side rear quarter panel under the fuel nozzle on the car where fuel has eating at the metal. This is a very dangerous situation and can be deadly. This should be taken seriously.

Went to fill Durango up two days after purchased used. The pump shut off automatically and sprayed approx. One liter of gas on my hand, sleeve, right leg, right shoe, and the fender/bumper of the vehicle. This is a serious safety concern and there is no warning from Dodge that this may occur. This was a recall on 2005's and Dodge representatives told me when I asked about an assist, "if it was a recall before and isn't now, the issues would have been addressed on the assembly line". this statement, from my case manager, is clearly not true. There are several videos on youtube.com of this happening to vehicles with VIN numbers that are post recall.
