My 2006 Dodge Durango began having issues with the fuel tank one year ago. Every time I fill up the tank, after the nozzle automatically shuts off, gas spews back out of the car onto me and the exterior of the vehicle. May 2011 a service shop found that a solenoid had failed and replaced it. They also found that the surge canister was holding gasoline, as it likely is filled when the tank spews gas back out. Replacing the solenoid did not correct the problem, and the service technician informed me that there were several reports of this occurring with other Dodge Durangos, but that my year vehicle had not been recalled. Only 2005 Durangos have been recalled for this exact same problem. I reported this to Chrysler on May 24, and the case manager contacted me on May 31 to report that Chrysler was choosing not to assist in replacing the fuel tank, and at this time has not recalled for this safety issue.

When fueling my 2006 Dodge Durango; the pump will click off automatically then gas will overflow from the tank. I purchased this vehicle used and have had the problem since day 1 of ownership. Dodge recalled the 2005 model for the same problem. I contacted Dodge; and took my vehicle in to an authorized dealer. $1043 plus tax for parts and labor to have the fuel tank replaced. Why did they recall the 2005 but not the 2006 for the exact same problem. This is absolutely ridiculous. It is a safety hazard !!!!!! please, please, please help 2006 owners get this resolved.

When fueling, if allowed to fill up, at the point of full/pump cut off, gasoline will spray out of the fill tube around the nozzle and create a large puddle on the ground. This was intermittent at first, but has since become an every time occurrence. Not only an environmental hazard, this poses serious risks to the passengers (esp. Children)

Gas over flowing at the fuel pump when filling up. The pump wouldn't automatically stop till after it was over flowing. Gas spilled on the paint and hands, cloths if your standing there and on the ground cause a possible fire hazard. Took to dealer said it was the gas tank. They replaced it and no more problems. I have a 2006 Dodge Durango. The automatic fuel shut-off valve, located inside the fuel tank, does not work. This allows for fuel to splash out of the tank each time you fill the tank. From the research that I've done, this is a know problem for Chrysler products, which resulted in the recall of several thousand 2005 model year Dodge Durangos. The problem persists in model years 2006 and 2007 for Dodge Durangos, chrsyler aspens, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is an extreme safety hazard as the fuel splash unexpectedly.

I have a 2006 Dodge Durango. The last 5 times I've filled it up, the gas has overflowed even though the auto shut-off clicked on the pump handle. The first time I thought it must be the pump, but now that it's happened 2 more times, I'm am very worried and would like this fixed by Dodge. This can be extremely hazardous to myself and the children in the car if a spark is present. At about 58,000 miles my 2006 Dodge Durango began to overflow or spit back a large amount of fuel when topping off the tank. The amount of fuel is about 1/2 to 1 gallon in size and spits out of the filler neck in a flowing spray. It does this every time I fill it till the pump auto shuts off.

Fuel spills out of the gas tank when finished filling up. I called Dodge on 10/28/2009 to see if there was a recall. Dodge said there was a recall, but only on the 2005 models, not the 2006 models. They gave me a case # and told me to get it checked out by my dealership. When I got to the dealership they wanted to charge me to look at it. I thought that I was the only one with this problem, however I see over 270 complaints here on the D.O.T. website. This is a serious safety and environmental issue. I can tell you that the ecco friendly vapor locking gas pumps do not work on my Durango when gas comes spraying out the fuel filler neck all over the truck, ground, and anything near it including people. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed and I hope it isn't my 16 yr. Old son who just got his license. This is an obvious defect of the fuel check valve and the recall should be extended to the 2006 models as well. I will be taking videos of my next several fill-ups as evidence. How many complaints does it take to get some action?

Fuel filler tube overflows after fuel pump at the gas station hits the auto shut-off point. Notified dealer who said they hadn't heard anything about a problem like that, but offered to look into it for a charge. Approximately 1-2 cups of fuel shoots out of the filler tube every time the vehicle is filled. The fuel sprays over whomever is filling the vehicle and is ruining the paint around the filler tube. There is an extreme fire/explosion danger as well as potential for damage to eyes, lungs, and skin. This is also damaging to the environment.
