Our 2008 Dodge Durango developed engine knock at 64k miles. We took it to a Dodge Dealership (Maroone Dodge of Pembroke Pines) and we were told by the service manager (Kenny) that it was a "sludge engine", and that Chrysler wouldn't cover it under the LIFETIME POWERTRAIN warranty because "Sludge engine is ALWAYS the result of poor maintenance".
I have all but 2 of my oil change records, as those two I did myself. Because I cannot furnish EVERY record, Chrysler will nnot even consider honoring my warranty.
My wife and I have launched a Twitter campaign against them, and we have their attention. We are working toward making #ChryslerSellsLemons and #BoycottChrysler trending topics on everyone's twitter feed. So far we have gotten some high level attention from Twitter executives.
The bottom line is that even if I had missed two oil changes, that would NOT cause oil pump failure and catastrophic engine damage. Reduced engine life for sure, but catastrophic failure at 64k? Not a chance. Every mechanic in the world knows it's a load of garbage.
We were left with a $9,300 repair bill that we could not afford to pay. We offered the bank a settlement on the Durango that would allow us to trade the damaged vehicle in, cover the repair cost and get us into another Dodge product but the bank refused. They repossessed the vehicle while our son was in the Pediatric ICU at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, leaving us with no transportation. Our other 4 children still need to get back and forth to school and such. They left us in the worst possible spot, and have so far done NOTHING to make it right.
