Last week, a feature that I use often which is the display on the overhead console that shows outside temperature, tire pressure, gas mileage, etc. just randomly stopped working. The controls buttons that you would press to change it from one mode to another are still illuminated as well as the pivoting map lights, sunroof controls and interior light are all still working fine. It's just the display is black with nothing showing at all.
My local dodge dealer wants to charge me 129.99 to diagnose the problem which seems to me to be some kind of LED lighting issue, perhaps a bulb? Then, if my lifetime max care covers it, it will be another $100 deductible. I called Dodge who called the parts dept at my local dealership and was told that the part costs $500 and with another $300-400 for labor. While its not crucial to have this handy set of features, I am quite used to it and it seems to me that the vehicle is only 6 years old, this should not be happening.
I was watching an overhead console on eBay that is used for a 2008 but based on what I was told, this would not be a viable option as once installed it would have to be calibrated via computer. Does any one have any experience with this problem of the overhead console display suddenly stopped lighting up?
