About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The backup camera display is very bright with little or no dimming at night. Backing during the day in any scenario (trailer or not) is acceptable. The camera display being this bright at night reduces rearward visibility with the mirrors due to a loss of night vision. The bright backup camera display is especially an issue when backing a trailer at night since you must use the side mirrors (trailer blocks the camera). As with any backup camera, it has limited usefullness (for backing) with a trailer connected and therefore is not used. In order to use the mirrors, I must cover the display with something to block the light and wait until my eyes readjust to the darkness before backing up. The dealership acknowledged that my infotainment system was problematic and they replaced the infotainment system due to this and other issues. However, the same issues are still happening and when brought to the dealership again they stated I must now wait for the next update (unknown timing). They did not state whether this issue (or any of the other infotainment issues this vehicle has) would be fixed in that update. This may be an issue with my specific vehicle due to the other previous issues, as I do not know if others exhibit this or not. The date selected below is the most recent occurrence of the issue. It happens each time I need to back the trailer at night.
