The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. When the contact attempted to unlock the driver and passenger side doors with the key fob, they would not unlock. The only way to unlock the doors was manually with the key. The contact replaced the batteries in the fob, but that did not work. The contact also stated that the rear sliding door did not open, even manually with a key. The vehicle was driven to the dealer but there was a fee for the diagnostic test. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 205,000.

The left side rear sliding door stopped working in June 2013 by only opening about 3 inches and stopping, then later started not unlocking automatically. You then had to either pull the door open or pull it shut. In July of 2014 the right side rear sliding door stopped working and unlocking automatically. We actually started having problem with it shortly after we bought it in April 2005. If you had it open, it would occasionally not close at all even manually until you pulled on it for a while. We took it to the dealer more than once and they said nothing was wrong with it. Now, both have to be manually unlocked and on occasion the right side will open automatically after you manually unlock it. Neither of the rear sliding doors lock or unlock automatically with the button on the headliner, the automatic button on the door, or with the key. The left door does not even want to open manually from the inside. This gets scary when you have a baby seat on the other side and others have left the vehicle before you and you have no one to open the door and are unable to climb over the front seats due to health issues. When we bought the van we were shown at the dealer how the doors would stop if there was a hand, foot, or something in the doorway to avoid injury, so could the mechanicals that work this be at fault?? we never wanted to try this to see, but this is about where the door stops working on the left side. I noticed that there are many, many complaints about these doors not working. I believe this to be a safety issue and cannot understand with all the complaints why this issue has not been addressed by Chrysler. To be honest we have had multiple issues with this van since we bought it and spoke to lots of people with the same complaints. We feel there needs to be a recall.

The power function to both rear sliding doors failed within the past 18 months, the right rear sliding door will not open manually now. It will move approximately 2 inches, then stop and no matter how much physical force you apply, the door remains in that position. Should someone need to make an emergency egress from the vehicle they could not using this door.

My daughter 8 can not open the sliding doors in the back because the button is to hard to push also on one side you can not open it from the inside and I think this should be checked on it is a safety hazard.

Passenger side power sliding door would not unlock manually or with any of the remote buttons. Problem was resolved by replacing defective right side sliding door actuator.

Driver's side automatic sliding door only opens a few inches and then stops. The door will not close automatically at all I hear are loud clicks like the locks are being engaged. The door can only be opened or closed manually. The problem occurs every time either of the 2 inside buttons are pressed or the key fob button is pressed. The doors are clearly not geared for manual opening/closing, that is, they are extremely difficult to open or close manually. This is major a concern as it is very difficult to get out of the vehicle for someone sitting in any of the rear seats.

The automatic door locks stop working. This has been discussed on the internet quite a bit. The problem is that the door will not lock or unlock with the key fob or door switch. The also do not automatically lock when the car starts moving thus creating a safety concern for kids riding in the back. Removing the negative battery terminal resets it so that it works again briefly. The problem recurs again after a brief time.

Right side van door stopped closing and opening correctly. It gets stuck part-way. Now it doesn't close properly or lock, you have to work hard to close it.

The power door locks repeatedly fail - I understand this to be a common issue with this vehicle - making it difficult to get access to vehicle from the outside, especially problematic with children in the backseats who have difficulty unlocking the doors manually. Also, the passenger side power sliding door has not been operational for some time. We have also recently experienced a, as yet still undiagnosed, complete power failure in the whole electrical system - this occurred suddenly while the vehicle was traveling 65 mph with the cruise control engaged (it had been engaged for several miles). These issues range from very inconvenient to potentially hazardous.

We locked the vehicle with the remote, saw the door closing, and when we returned, the passenger sliding door was wide open! since the original failure date, this happens continuously. The door closes almost all the way, and then reverses, and opens up. We have to manually shut the sliding door (difficult) in order to close and lock it. Did not notify manufacturer or dealer.

I found on the internet that a bought 63 complaints about the power sliding doors on my 05 Dodge Grand Caravan well I hate to be 64 but I was led to the problem in side the wiring harness there is a red and black wire the door will stop working when the wire breaks and gets exposed there are a lot of complaints that these wires need to be fixed.

Power rear sliding doors just quit working. Wires get cut by the track they are contained in called a wire track or sliding channel. This has happened numerous times on both driver & passenger sides. I'm concerned this could cause electrical fire or shock. Dealer replaced once under warranty for passenger side but warranty was out when it happened again. 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan sliding door opening / closing problems. Is it the wiring harness? I have seen hundreds if not thousands of individuals with this problem. Door opens slightly then stops. Most dangerous part is that it will not cycle to fully pull the door in and close completely. I found broken wire in the track and replaced. But the problem still persists. It is a daily problem and the great engineers at Chrysler should be held accountable for this faulty design!!!

2005 Dodge Grand Caravan power sliding door failure due to faulty wiring harnesses. This has occurred for the past two years. The wiring harness has broken wire internally and then the door will not function or will partially function. When it partially functions, the driver may begin to operate the vehicle when the rear doors are not completely shut.
