You can hear a rythmic growl (especially when going through a drive-thru) when the engine is idling and you have your foot on the brake or are slowly drifting along. It seems to go away once the RPMs are increased. I notice it more when the A/C is on, but I think that only increases the low-idle load on the engine causing the sound to be louder. I've heard on other forums of folks changing out A/C components, bearings, water pumps, power steering pumps all to no avail. We've decided to add roadside assistance to our policy as our "fix".

A month after buying the car, we noticed a weird noise. We really don't know what it is til this day. When we took the car in for a recall for the hose (not sure which type), we told them of the noise but they can't hear it. It's one of those things where when it's your car, you know what sounds normal and what doesn't. The sound we were hearing was not normal and very hard to describe. It was a low growling foghorn sound that comes and goes. But it makes me nervous thinking that it could signify some kind of problem that will cost big bucks down the road. The car is only a year old.
