Grand Caravan Stow And Go

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,000 miles

After picking up the van and paying 991 dollars to repair the AC compressor and make the car drivable again, within 150 miles, the car lost pick-up again, and was bucking and heaving and revving up to 5000 rpm for very modest speeds. I am suspicious that this is a transmission failure, and am really pissed at what seems to be a problem that other owners have experienced as well. Shoddy design and workmanship, it looks like to me!

Grand Caravan 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,000 miles

I JUST GOT HIS VAN SO I DONT KNOW HOW LONG ITS BEEN GOING ON FOR BUT I HAVE HAD MANY PEOPLE LOOK AT IT AND THEY NOTHINGS WRONG BECAUSE I CANT MAKE IT DO IT. WHEN I AM TAKING OFF FROM A STOP THE TRANSMITION SEEMS TO SKIP LIKE ITS NOT GETTING GRIP THEN IT STOPS. IT HAPPENS ME KIDS ARE IN THE BACK. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE DRIVE SHAFT BUT ITS NOT REAR WHEEL DRIVE BUT THATS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE. I HAVE TRIED IT WOTH THE TRACKTION CONTROL OFF AND ON AND THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. IT SEEMS TO DO IT MORE IF I AM ON A HILL AND I GO TO SAN FRANSICO ALL THE IME BUT I AM SCARED TO TAKE THE VAN NOW AND I REALLY NEED IT WITH 3 KIDS AND A DISABLED UNCLE.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

I had the same problem with a jerky shift from gears 1-2. I was concerned it might be the shift solenoid, but the Dealer downloaded and installed the latest shift software to the transmission computer and I haven't had the problem since! Definitely recommend trying this first before you start dumping money into replacing the transmission components or the tranny itself.

Grand Caravan SE 3.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

My Doge Grand Caravan some times shifts with a jerk when it shifts from 1-2 Gears and some times does not go into reverse. You can speed the engine up and still doesn't move. It you put in back in park than back into reverse there is a slight jerk and than it goes in gear. It is hard to pinpont because it doesn't do it all the time. I have taken into the dealer to have checked but when they test drive it it works just fine. It is not giving any codes out so they have no answers. The van had the transmission rebuild at 37,000

It had 75,000 when I bought it. I have the transmission serviced to see if that was the problem. I have an extended warranty on the van that would cover repairs if it went out. I have two years left. I just had the power steering pump changed and had a steering gear changed in the steering gear box. The van is great to drive other than that and is pretty good on gas. I could use all the advise I can get.
