Grand Caravan 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

My wife has a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT (3.8L) automatic. The radiator fan assembly consists of two fans. the driving side one seems to be the main engine fan and the passenger side one comes on as needed more so with the a/c on. Anyways the pass side one started whining about a month ago or that's when I noticed it. We had plans to fix it riht away but $$$ had other plans. So just the other day it started giving off a burning smell. We have a retired mechanic friend that works out of his driveway (near I35 and I635 in Dallas if you ever need one contact me) for pretty cheap. Well he was going to get a used one from a junkyard for $125, so he did, hooked it up and it was bad also, they had another off a 2007 but things come up and he had to go out of town. No he doesn't usually do that, he's a good guy, just bad timing. Anyways it started burning so we just went and bought a new fan assmebly for $225 w/tax from Autozone. Well it's more than likey an aftermarket fan. Anyways the original plastic wiring clip things did not fit onto the new fan part where they go. Another set of eyes figured out that the molding on the fan assembly right under where the wire thing connects was not notched out enough for the clip to lock into place. So we took the fans and motors off and cut out a little more to make the notch deeper, put it all back together and now it works like a charm. I hope you don't have to go through all of that but it would save you time scratching your head trying to figure why the fans wouldn't come on.
