Grand Caravan Flex Fuel 3.3L

So this van is a huge expense for me. I've never encountered anything like this before but want it known that it very well can and will happen. I would go out to start my van and couldn't figure out what was causing the van not to start without a jump. Went through 2 batteries, amongst other purchases that was told might be the cause.

I replaced the EGR gasket and EGR, spark plug n wires, valve cover gaskets, oil pan and gasket, pcv valve, serpentine belt, idler pulley, alternator, bought a battery jump pack, also put on new fuel injectors, coil pack. And come to find out there's a notch on there that shows where the key is supposed to stop. After aging and use I suppose the key doesn't stop there anymore so you have to make sure its there or your battery will be dead when you go somewhere. Not all these things that's been done has to do with the key only. I'm having power steering problems as well. I just want people to know that this can be a problem, may save you some money!

Grand Caravan LX 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Periodically when cold, van would not turn over when key fully turned with no lights. Or would start then die immediately then would not crank. Did it on over five occasions one time while 100 miles away and at 1030 at night. Finally, broke hard at home. Found wiring diagram online for this vehicle and found a severely crimped wire going into SKREEM unit. This is the unit that disables car when an improper key is inserted in the ignition that relies on a coded key. I believe moving the tilt steering sometimes cause one of five wires to crimped and found wire going into SKREEM unit broke off. Repaired with a small wire splice. No further occurrences.
