Over the last year the paint on the roof, hood and panels above the side windows have gotten extremely bad and the clear coat is peeling like skin after a bad sunburn. Dodge states there is not any recalls on the paint but the dealership would be happy to provide a quote. I have gotten a few quotes from body shops and they average $2K to repaint the roof and hood. The van in very mechanically sound but looks terrible and embarrassing to be seen in. My daughter had a similar problem with her Civic and Honda repainted the entire car...why can't Dodge stand behind their products like Honda??? It's no wonder that people don't want to buy American products!

The clear coat is peeling from the top of my van and to a lesser degree along every edge of the body close to the windows. It looks like a junker despite having only 72,000 miles and it is in excellent running condition. My mechanic comments on how well it runs every time it is in for standard maintenance. I am embarrassed by the peeling.

The local dealership will only help me out if I bought it from them or if I want to trade it in. I suspect the only reason they are willing to make me feel like I would be getting a good trade in is because of the low mileage. I am not in the market for a new car and I seriously doubt I would get a Dodge again as I am seeing lots of Dodges with peeling clear coat. They suggested I talk to the dealership from which I bought the van. Out of luck there as I bought it from an individual who had bought it at auction after being rotated out of a fleet after 3 years. So what I heard from the dealership is that the only deal that might be worked is from the dealer of origin or to simply trade in for another Dodge. But I am seeing peeling clear coat on Dodges of all makes. I have stuck with them through weak transmissions and short brake and tire life, but just don't think I can add one more issue to the list.

I recently had a rock kick up off the highway and hit the side of my van chipping the paint and leaving a dent. My insurance company would have it fixed, but acted surprised that I might want to. I asked the body shop what it would cost to repair the clear coat and was told it would require and entire paint job due to the need to strip all the clear coat off.

This is my 4th Chrysler van. The first 3 were purchased new from the dealers and Chrysler stood behind their product. (1988 Grand Caravan-engine replaced under warranty, 1996 Grand Voyager-bought back under Lemon Law, 1999 Grand Caravan-marvelous vehicle that replaced the lemon, 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. My 1999 was totaled and I still miss it.

I am considering making a sign to put in my back window where the most clear coat is completely gone saying, "Dodge is proud of this?"
