On January 7, 2017, I tried to start my 2010 Caravan. It wouldn't start. The light was on for the electronic throttle control, as was the check engine light. This is the third time that this has happened since mid-December. The other two times after waiting for up to a week, it has started. After checking around, I have found that this is happening quite a bit to others as well. Apparently, dealerships have no clue either, as to what is causing this issue. It could be the throttle control, it could be the main electrical module, no one seems to know for sure. I'm pretty much stuck, as I don't want to be out on the road and have my van stop, causing an accident.

I had turned onto a highway and was accelerating and when I got up to speed, 65 mph, I let off the gas but the van kept accelerating. I hit the brakes and it kept trying to accelerate while I was hitting the brakes. I checked to make sure there was nothing on the gas pedal and there was nothing. I was trying not to hit other cars and slow down so I could pull over. I didn't think to put it in neutral but stomped on the emergency brake with the regular brakes and it finally slowed down enough I could pull over but it still kept trying to accelerate. When I got to the side of the road it was still kind of lurching forward trying to accelerate while I was still standing on the brakes. I turned the key off and it finally stopped. Through this whole ordeal it felt like someone was pressing on the gas at the same time that I was hitting the brakes and it didn't stop until I turned the van off.

Air bag indicator illuminated, cruise control did not function. Manual & dealership confirmed cruise would not work if air bag indicator is lit. Vehicle ran hot during slow speeds in hot weather. Dealership first said driver's airbag sensor & tipm were bad, & bad tipm affects all electronic components from airbags, lights, brakes, wipers, horn, windows, temp control, & more. Learned that Dodge has had widespread problems with the tipm, and did not want to chance the airbags not working, so we had to replace it even though it was not under recall. We are reporting the problem even though it did not cause a safety incident - we can not wait until *after* a potential safety incident that involved malfunctioning airbags... the vehicle has spent 3 wks + at the dealership, and we don't have the docs verifying the work they have completed yet. We will gladly provide the paperwork after the work is finished.

On April 17, driving at highway speeds the cruise control failed to cancel two separate times. Applying brakes also did not cancel the cruise control. Then, engine stalled at highway speeds on same trip two times. Several days later, engine failed to start. After several attempts the engine started. Suspect tipm failure.

The contact mentioned that the vehicle did not accelerate over 20 mph. The failure occurred on two occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. My parents bought a 2010 Dodge Caravan new, and we were on a family road trip in California this month. Mileage was only at 3500 (M/L) when we left Washington. It had just been serviced at the dealership before we left. Used cruise control on I-5 South through Washington, Oregon, and California. The cruise control was fussy and inconsistent, but functional more or less. After arriving at family member's house in ca., never used cruise control while driving because of windy roads. On Tuesday, June 17th, 2014 (during our trip), I was heading East on hwy. 12, West of lodi, ca. There was a long merge lane, and I was accelerating in to traffic. I was not using cruise control. As I pulled on to the highway, the accelerator pedal went out from under my foot and stuck to the floor. I put both feet on the brake, and the engine was roaring, red-lined. I remembered hearing on the news to put the vehicle in neutral, which I did. The brakes worked, and I pulled over on the shoulder of the highway. The motor was still revving, so I then turned off the engine. After several minutes of conversation with family (and prayers of thanks!!!), we continued on our way. On Thursday, June 19th, I took the van to a Dodge dealer in folsom, ca. To have the vehicle diagnosed. Mileage was at 4308 in folsom, so vehicle was basically new, but off warranty. The only thing they found was a transmission code for overheating 6 starts ago. They said everything checked out fine. I have checked a few websites, and we are not the first people to experience this accelerator problem. I am so thankful that my 80 year old mom was not driving the vehicle when this happened, or there could have been catastrophic results. I really hope Chrysler takes this seriously and finds a solution for this, before people die from this kind of incident.scary.

The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a brake and accelerator incompatibility. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 43,731.

Was entering a parking place. Right foot on top of brake. While my car was moving at idol speed-the engine RPM's speed surges causing no control in steering, brake. The surgeing over rides the brake. Steering, everything.. hit parked car. You have no control in situation. Had another "2010" van & same thing happened going thru garage door -2nd time almost hit building at my dentist building. Dealership made deal & switched to present van. Now this one has done it. Chrysler has inspected van for two weeks. They found nothing wrong. Case number at Chrysler is #23859956. Can't drive this van again. Next time may injure or kill someone. Found many with same trouble on internet. How do we get Chrysler to notice before someone is badly hurt. They are waiting for me to pick up my van"???". don't know if I can do it. Also have to fix bumper for $800.

I was pulling into a parking spot at sam's club in woodbury, mn. As I was pulling in, my van rapidly accelerated and hit the car parked across from me head on. It felt as if I was riding a bumper car and I was whipped around a corner. My vehicle suffered damages at approximately $2600--so it wasn't just a simple bump. I am reasonably certain that this was not user error on my part. The brakes were repaired approximately 2 weeks before the accident.

Electronic throttle control light comes on periodically, causing inconsistent, poor or non-existent throttle response. Traction control light may also light up. Restarting the vehicle usually makes the problem go away, but this is not an acceptable solution. Occasionally, with the etc light on, throttle response does not occur at all, which is hazardous in traffic.

When speed control is on at speeds between 45-65 mph, when going downhill, the transmission will downshift extremely hard causing high rpms 5500+. attempted to disengage manually and by stepping on the brake but condition continued for 45 secs. Put vehicle in neutral and coasted reengaging D at approx 10 mph. Occurred a 2nd time at 65 mph going downhill 300 miles later that same day. No warning lights were activated during both events. This sudden downshifting causing momentary loss of control and loss of speed. In my opinion is a safety concern. Especially would be a concern when operating on adverse road conditions. Me Chrysler dealer advised not use use speed control. Engine light came on next day. Engine light came on next day. Will be going to a ct dealership on Friday for troubleshooting.

When speed control is on and active at highway speed, when going down a hill the transmission will downshift 3rd gear level very hard and the engine will go into a high RPM rev. Turned off speed control or stepping on the brakes this condition continued for 30 seconds. Took car to dealership, there was no check engine light or error codes in the computer or any factory recall on this condition. This problem happened multiple times. Dealership has to get in touch with factory to get help with this problem. Can't use speed control where hills are involved, or not at all. This option or function is bad! the consumer was told not to use the speed control and to shut it off when traveling down hill. But, it was ok to use up hills or on level roads. The vehicle could shut off when the engine revving is too high, but it was not a safety issue. Having no power brakes or steering was definitely a safety issue. Chrysler informed the consumer they were going to look into possible software updates or a mechanical fix to correct the problem. They did not feel it would be a quick fix, so the consumer would have to live with the defect. Updated 07/13/10
