Grand Caravan 6-cyl

  • 57,000 miles
On thanksgiving morning 2014, me and my family went out to go to visit family for thanksgiving dinner, but the vehicle would not start. It would crank and crank, but never come close to turning over. The gas tank was full, the battery was fine, but clearly it wasn't getting gas. We obviously couldn't go anywhere. After using our other vehicle, we managed to make it to dinner (though obviously late). The next day, I had the car towed in, and several days later when the dealership finally had the time to analyze what was wrong, I was notified of the tipm problem. So far, it's been nearly a week and there is still no further news on when we can get it fixed. I've been told there are only 300 tipm's in the country and that they are unsure when they can get the part. Thus far, I've been told that it would be covered by my extended warranty, and that the part is "approximately" $700 and labor would be "about" $200, so I don't yet know what it'll cost. I do know that it will cost me $50 for the warranty deductible. While that is not a large amount, the more troubling issue is that I'm now paying for the loan and insurance on a vehicle that I cannot use for reasons that were entirely out of my control and for a period of time that is unknown.

Vehicle will not start and will stop while driving. Three different batteries have been drained to the point of going bad. Dodge service center has identified the problem as a faulty tipm (totally integrated power module).

Bases on what I found with my local mechanic and online my van a faulty tipm. Dodge currently has a recall out for other vehicle with a bad tipm but claims my van in not affected by it. My van has hard starts or it will start the stall. It takes about 8-10 times before it will start and stay running. Also my fuel pump will stay running even after I take the key out. If I do not remove the fuel pump fuse the pump will until the battery dies.

After being told by the dealer our van wouldn't start due to the alternator, we decided to have the alternator looked at. The other mechanic found nothing to be wrong with the alternator. The dealer also said we needed our fuel pump replaced. We have had other vehicles that needed fuel pumps replaced and when the fuel pump went out we were not able to drive it at all. My husband was at an appointment and after turning off van he heard something running. The sound was tracked to the fuel pump. So the dealer wasted our time and money all the time trying to have us replace parts that would not have corrected the problem. After calling and trying to get a fuel pump regulator we discovered the fuel pump regulator is built into the tipm. We have a faulty tipm. I wish Dodge would get off their butt and issue a recall already. The only way a can shut the fuel pump off is to unhook the battery.

My van will try to start but it just keeps trying to turn over. I have to manually turn the key back off and wait, it usually takes about 3 times for it to actually start. It makes the clicking noise like its a starter or battery but both have been checked and are fine.

My van's air conditioning wasn't working so I took it into the dealer...when they gave it back I had cold air in the front but not in the back, I took it back again, they fixed the air for the front but then the fan wasn't working at all in the back vents, I took it back a 3 rd time finally it seemed fixed, since then I have lost control of using the buttons on my steering wheel, cruise control only works when it wants to, and my vehicle will turn over but has a hard time starting, they have changed out the starter messed with my wiring and changed out my battery, it still isn't fixed. Now my vents in the backseats are not blowing air again, they replaced the starter, the battery and still I am having all these problems. Could this have to do with a recall that hasn't been done on my vehicle? also I bought the van new and have had a few paint jobs to fix the rubbing of the side doors that cause my paint to rub off above the wheel wells, I finally gave up on having it fixed but I know this is an error on Chrysler's side as I can show you atleast two more Grand Caravan's same year with the same rubbed off paint because of side doors. Very disappointed in buying my first brand new Caravan.

The car stalled and steering became very difficult while driving on thruway... I was able to get car to side of road and it started back up but it was pretty scary event - I had my three daughters 2, 4 & 6 years old in the car at the time. This has happened before... I took it into the dealer 6 weeks ago and was informed that the tipm is defective and that they are on back order - no eta on repair. I quick internet search reveals quite a few people with similar Caravan problems...

After arriving home from a 5 mile trip, after about 15 minutes of driving, pulled in driveway, turned off vehicle, saw smoke coming from button on ac unit which controls the speed of airflow for the ac. The smoke increased, smelled of chemicals and was clearly an electrical fire burning through ac knob. Fire department was called. Dash removed. Fire was recreated by fireman twice. Ac fuses were disconnected from battery by fireman. Van was towed by aaa to Dodge dealership for further inspection/repair. Rental car was provided by Dodge and covered for 5 days. Today is the 5th day and Dodge is still working on car.

I have a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan with about 52,000 miles on it. On day the radio just went off and then turned back on. It did this multiple times before we sent it in to the shop. Then one day it would not start. It would turn over but would not fire until I tried it 6 to 10 times and then it would start. We took it in to the dealer for a misfire in cylinder #2 ( recall on left head) but it started all the time for them, until I went to leave, and then no start. The tech was able to duplicate it and said we would trouble shoot it. A week later they called and said it is more then likely the tipm causing the problem and the part is backorder nationally and would cost me $1037 plus tax for the parts and labor. If it is back ordered then there is a big problem and Chrysler knows about it. I hope they issue a recall soon so I can get my money back.

I would occasionally smell smoke while driving the first few times it happened I pulled over but noticed no obvious smoke coming from anywhere, this was never a consistent ongoing problem meaning I don't smell it daily. Sometimes while driving at maybe 40 mph if I give it a little more gas to speed up a little it would speed up more than I thought it should. When unplugging the usb cord into the board for music I can hear a loud noise that typically is associated with electrical problems. Most recently my A/C has began coming on automatically, this began last week and has happened at least 5 times so far. Since the A/C issue I got online to goggle ad search for possible recalls. I placed a call with a local Dodge dealer to explain the issues I'm having and ask about a recall, I was told someone would return my call but has not. This van has a ramp installed in it and is used to Transport my daughter who has special needs. I need this resolved asap.

The contact has noticed that the display on the backup display is very dark during the day making it very hard to see anything, sometimes nothing at all. Also the contact has had problems with the passenger side window switch not functioning correctly, sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Also there is a problem with the display for heating/cooling system, it will adjust itself with the temperature and fan, it will be on front and back then go to just the front with a different temperature and fan setting, it will also change settings going over bumps in the road. It does this when there is extreme temperature changes or when there is any type of moisture in the air, it will be flicker back and forth constantly not allowing for manual changes of temperature or fan.
