This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Dodge dealer.
First the engine light came on and my wife reported the car shacking and acting up. I had a mechanic check the codes and he replaced the spark plugs and coil on number 2 cylinder. Light went off and problem came back. Lot of highway miles on this vehicle. Suggested I take it somewhere else.
Took it to another shop, they did a compression test on all cylinders, Three in front low compression, 80-90. Used a solution to try to rectify the problem. Problem disappeared at shop. Problem reappeared on way home as light came back on. Shop said they thought engine was gone.
Talked on mechanic who rebuilds engines. It is a VVT engine. He idid not look at vehicle but suggested it was one of two things. It could be the timing chain jumped, but probably not. This did happen once before under warranty. Secondly, it probably was the sensors on the camshaft that messed up and through off the timing. It could cause three cylinders to have low compression. Then the bad news, it can not be fixed. You have to drop a used engine or new engine in. I also talked to another engine man and a Dodge mechanic and heard the same thing.
We went to the dealer and checked out a newer car. The salesman told me that 2011 was the first year they came out with VVT engines and they had a few problems. He offered a 1500 Cdn for trade in.
Very upset with Chrysler. Drove a lot of their minivans a lot of miles and kilometres. Not this one. Throw away engines.

When this started last year, my check engine light came on so I had hooked up the computer reader and it read that all 4 oxygen sensors were misfiring and had a cylinder misfiring. So I replaced all 6 spark plugs and all 6 coil packs to no avail.
One time I loaded my van up with over 700 pounds of construction material for my deck. I kept it in there for over 2 weeks to prevent theft. In those 2 weeks the check engine light turned off all that time and my van ran flawlessly. When I unloaded it from the van the light came back on and the misfiring resumed. Why did it stop? Maybe because the tranny went into tow mode changing the amount of oxygen needed therefore turning off the oxygen sensors?
I went to the dealership this weekend to get real results and they advised me that there was a manufacturer defect on the left cylinder. They will be replacing it for free of charge and hopefully that will fix the problem. I will keep everyone posted.

The engine began to chug during acceleration and the performance from 60-100km/hr was sluggish. I received an error code indicating and Engine Misfire. I took the van to a local Dodge dealership and they cannot duplicate the problem. I was also told I would be responsible for the cost of a rental car. I found this customer service to be very poor. I cannot understand how I am out of pocket for the cost of rental car when their product is junk. The sluggish performance continued and now the heat is not working and blowing cold air.
