The brakes and Rotors are undersized on the base model Caravan....in 2013 they got rid of the option for the smaller rotors and it should not be an issue. Sucks to have the 2012 or older with brakes far undersized and replace the rotors annually. Keep in mine we do lots of highway miles and coasting....our previous car (a 2008 Ford Focus) went 105,000 miles before changing the rotors with similar style of driving and use.

The brakes in the base 2012 Caravan are undersized and the rotors/pads require replacement roughly every 1.5 years. Our previous car (2008 Focus) had original rotors until 105,000 miles with similar driving.

October 18th , 2017 @ 27,000km we had to replace the Front Brake Rotors and Brake Pads because they were corroded. The car does have low mileage on it (2nd family car) but it is driven once to twice a week and was 5 years old when this happened. You could hear thumping when you'd brake at 50mph / 80kmh , that's because the front rotors were corroded. (original calipers and sliders still in good shape & were re-used) We had this same issue with the Rear Rotors & Pads when this van was only 3 years old in 2015 with 14,000 kilometres on it. Same issue , but on the Rear....rotors corroded.
I know it has low mileage, but I mean c'mon.....they can't make the OEM rotors out of better quality steal than that. So we went with aftermarket rotors and pads in both instances (back & front) that are coated and basically got the best ones our mechanic recommended so that this doesn't happen again.

I am replacing my front pads every 6/7 months. My rear pads once a year and my front rotors once a year. I feel like I'm constantly needing to change them. I use higher grade ceramic pads and I gets squeaks very regularity.

Overall ,excessive, premature brake pad wear on rear brakes, mostly on inside pads reduced to metal with some meat left on outside pads. Fronts also similar wear pattern but not as fast.. Had replaced pads in Florida at about 22000. k My other cars and vans when over 80,000 k on set of pads, before replaced and this van is on its 4th set which is totally unacceptable at about 85,000 k. Went to local dealer Glassford inSept 2014 with 48,000 k did analysis charged over 60.00 and said needed brakes all around Quoted over 800. and said not under warranty and that calipers were working fine ??? they could not explain why brakes were wearing on one side only Said it was my driving habits ??? which is a crock ??? Driving over 60 year and never ran in to such nonsense and technician could not or would not admit there was a problem with the CALIPERS. Left dealership and reported to Chrysler and they also did nothing . Repaired brakes, pads on my own at a much lower cost. Continued to drive but with continued excessive pad wear , Replaced calipers at about 60000 k on rear Braking systems on these van are unsafe and totally unsatisfactory My son who also owns a 2014 with similar problems Why will Chrysler not admit there is a problem and why will they not stand behind there products???

The front pads were worn out after about 11,000 Km. Luckily they were still under warranty. But this is ridiculous to have pads changed twice in about 50000 Km

Now the rear brakes are worn out. There needs to be a recall for Dodge caravans for premature brake wear. My service provider has seen another Dodge Caravan with the same issue. The other one's brakes were completely worn out after 3 months. Chrysler needs to get this problem fixed. NOW.

Front Brakes were "shuddering" when braking, especially coming down from highway speeds. Had the rotors checked...were slightly warped, but met min thickness requirements. I purchased new (better grade) rotors, and pads, and replaced the front brakes myself. Was not that hard of a job - search Youtube if you need help, there a couple good videos to help you.
Overall, I was just disappointed that the brakes wore out in only 40000 miles - and the extended warranty did not cover it.
Side note, I had a tire go bad near to the same time. Brakes and Tires are just 'cheap' parts from the factory.

I had my van in for regular service, oil change. The dealer told me that the fuel injection system had to be flushed at this interval. I said ok. I told them there was an issue with the brakes on the right side when stopping there was a snapping noise coming from the right rear. They came back and said I needed pads and rotors all around. I could not believe this only 30K 18000 old school miles. They wanted $1250 to do the job. I told them no way. I asked what the warranty covered they told 1 year 20000K. ( have till Dec on 3yr 60k ) They did not want to help.
I had a quote at a friends shop for $650. To date I have not had the job there is now a lot of pulsating. They also said I needed an Air filter and Cabin air filter. I opened the engine air box took out the old one I could see sunshine thru the whole filter ........
I will not buy another Chrysler especially a Dodge Grand Caravan CVP which stands for Chinese Value Parts

Front and rear rotors warping every 6-12 months. Rear brake pads wearing 5x as fast as the front pads.
After buying an expensive set of aftermarket rotors and ceramic pads("powerstop" brand), the issue has stopped completely. No issues for the past 18months and they are wearing at a normal rate.
OEM parts are of poor quality. Design is not sufficient, causing premature wear and problems. The brakes should function with OEM parts. They do not.

Purchased the van new July 4th 2012.
The Car is driven 1-2 times a week.
Has low mileage at 14,000 kilometers.
November 2015 had to replace the Back Brakes & Rotors as they were rotted off.
I find it ridiculous that they use such cheap rotors that they rust that bad.
Replaced the factory rotors with Ceramic Coated Rotors. $260 out of pocket, not covered under warranty.
So far this 2012 Dodge Van has tranny issues, engine popping noises, and lousy brakes that needed replacing.

Took to authorized dealer. Still was under warranty for time; well under mileage requirement. Dealer said common problem. Said the company (Chrysler) parts were cheap. Warranty denied because break wear is "normal wear." Perhaps, for a Yugo, but for a supposedly quality auto? Disappointed. Needless to say lessens the chance I will purchase another Chrysler product.

Happened twice First time at 20 K miles and just this last May 23,2015 at 42.5 k miles
Engineers set engine for high idle to pass emission requirement. Must always use brakes in stop and go traffic at low speeds. Front brakes OK but rear brakes under designed for this constant operating condition.
Requires complete auto redesign. Should be a recall but no easy fix. I am open to suggestions and think we can get a National Recall.

The 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan is a POS. I bought this new with 7 miles on it and now it has 54,000. I have replaced brakes and rotors more than 5 times. This is getting ridiculous! Last time was just 6 months ago, before we went to Florida in Dec. Its only June and I am having to replace them again. Why have they not recalled this? I am so ready to trade this POS in.

I have owned this vehicle for 3 years. I have under 28,000KMS (17400miles). Regular maintenance done at the dealer where it was bought.
This is ridiculous. I expect to replace the brakes again in the near future after reading the thousands of other complaints on the internet. Here's the catch! The warranty for brakes is just 20,000kms or 1 year whichever comes first! Haha, what a money-grabber these Chrysler goons are.

Yet another complaint against Chrysler.
When you buy a new car especially if it's your FIRST new car after many 20+ years of buying used,, you expect it to be the best damn purchase you have made in your life. Sadly, when it comes to Chrysler or any domestic product, you realize how big of a mistake you have done.
With just 14000 KMS (just 8600miles!), I started hearing the brakes squeal, burn, smell, get hot! I bring it in to the dealer and they fix it under warranty. Wonderful I think, this is what is like owning a new car, you have a problem, you get it fixed at no cost, wonderful!!!! NOPE. After Googling for 2minutes, I saw how many other innocent people fell for Chrysler's money grabbing practices. All the way from the 2008 to the 2014, brakes gone bad not once, not twice but up to 4 times under 100,000! I didn't read any for 2015 maybe because there are not many of those on the road!!
You would think Chrysler would have a recall on these, oh yes they did have but the problem persists with the newer models including my 2012! Others suggested to upgrade to the bigger brakes but that requires a set of 17s which I don't have.
Anyway, fast forward exactly 2 years and another 14,000kms SAME PROBLEM for which I will submit a separate complaint.
Will never buy a Chrysler product in my life and will tell the same to friends, family, coworkers and strangers one and all. Enough of this money grabbing B$.

From the time I purchased my Dodge Caravan in 2012 I have had to replace the brakes and Rotors in the rear and front. In total I have replace them at least once a year. This is getting very expensive and I dont understand how this could be happening. I don't really drive my van a whole lot in 7 years I have only put on 138000 Kilometres. I have had my both front and back pad set. I have only used the better ones from ACDelco Advantage they also did a brake service kit, as they clean them and lube them and put on Anti squeal compound. The Calipers sliders in the rear were also done. I have even had all fluid system flush which cost me, money just for that is 58.00 Canadian. I have also had the Rear Right Brake cable replaced in hopes that this would help them last longer. DODGE YOU REALLY HAVE TO STEP UP AND DO A RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE, as the calipers need replacing as recall on all 2012, and find a fix to prevent this van from going through so many brakes, & Rotors. I am telling you this is ridiculous!!!!
PLEASE DODGE DUE A RECALL ON YOUR CALIPERS IN FRONT & DO SOMETHING TO FIX THE BRAKE ISSUE!! AND FIGURE OUT WHY THEIR IS A HARD SHIFTING PROBLEM WITH ALL DODGE CARAVANS IN 2012 AND POSSIBLY OTHER YEARS!!!!! LOOK INTO YOUR ISSUES.
PLEASE REIMBURSE MY MONEY BACK TO ME AS THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY WITH THE CALIPER AND THE HARD SHIFTING, AS THEY SAY I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY SOLENOID PACK. MAKE THIS HAPPEN AND RETURN MY MONEY BACK TO ME.
I hope they do the right thing, I am regretting my first purchase and getting ready to trade it in. Does any one no the book value for a 2012 Dodge Caravan with only 138,000 Kilometers.
Thanks for listening and I hope you do the right thing as I have listed all 6 of my issues separate and I hope I get all my money back which was a total of $2,363.21 in Canadian funds for these last complaints. Also take in consideration that i have replaced m brakes every year both front and back, you can take the total and add the amount of 455.43 Canadian dollars for the front and 455.43 for the back since 2012 so that is 6 times i have replaced both front and back brakes and rotors.
