Grand Caravan

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,000 miles

I bought brand new Dodge Caravan in July 2012, hoping that it would be a family friendly and safe car for my children aged 3 and 1.

However, in less than 2 years the engine of the car completely collapsed and seized in the middle of the road, while my wife was driving with my baby in the car. My wife was about to have a massive head on collision with oncoming traffic as she tried to steer the car but the engine seized, brakes jammed, and steering wheel frozen simultaneously, all of a sudden. Without any warning sign the brakes, steering wheel jammed and the car would not start at all. My wife was shattered as her car stood in the middle of the road and there was no way to start it again. My wife and the baby stood on the road helpless for over an hour.

We are utterly disgusted with Dodge. A car which costs $40,000 and is less than 2 years old should not have broken down in this way. This incident could have resulted in loss of life for my wife and baby! God forbid, hence we are taking this matter very seriously. We absolutely believe that this is a very dangerous vehicle and not safe to be on the road. We demand replacement of a car or another alternative? We also demand that this particular car be recalled so that what has happened to us does not happen to anybody else.

This situation could have been worse had this car stopped in the middle of a highway, We were lucky that my wife and baby were in the local area, driving on inside streets, otherwise there could have been a big accident affecting many lives.

Our car was finally taken to Chrysler Downsview, where initially they could not detect and finally after 3 days they returned our car after fixing it. Because of this incident my wife, who is a lawyer, had to miss 3 days of work and it was a big hassle for her, dropping and picking up the car, picking up and using the replacement car and the anxiety and fatigue because of this incident.

We do not trust this car anymore since we do not know if such a incident might be repeated. My wife is traumatized and refuses to drive this car anymore since she does not want to risk the lives of our kids again. We demand immediate action and notice to this incident, demand compensation for the anxiety caused and we want to be assured in writing and in principle that this car is safe as well.
