I was driving my 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan on an on-ramp, merging onto I-10 on our way to Tallahassee after a short Rest Area stop, when the van began to act up. The battery warning light and engine light came on about the same time...and the van started jerking violently; it seemed like the engine was ready to stall. Very unnerving to say the least. Was debating between pulling over and giving it more gas. Opted for the latter and it continued to sputter and shake violently, until I reached a cruising speed of about 55, where the shaking leveled off; allowing me to merge onto the highway. The engine warning light shut off at that time, but the battery light remained on, and the van seemed to recover and act normally. Figured I would keep it running and get to my destination rather than pull it over and having to deal with a tow. When I got off the interstate, it was idling rough... very rough, and I drove it to my destination with one foot on the gas and one on the brake to keep the rpms up. I shut the engine off and did not start it until later that night. Engine still continued to idle rough and would stall out when I stopped at a red light or stop sign. Nevertheless, I was able to start it up again and drive it. Got it home using the two foot driving technique, and took it to the dealer the very next day. Warning lights were now both off, and the van was now running fine. The dealer could not figure out what was wrong or what could have caused the engine to sputter and shake. None of the warning lights were on when I brought it in. There was, however, a reading from their computer that indicated a "higher than normal voltage spike" in an initial diagnostic... so my guess is that the problem was electrical in nature. I'm thinking that it might be an alternator related issue, but I'm not an expert. The van is being test driven again, so we'll see what happens. The experience was very unpleasant for all on board. It was scary to think that I was driving a vehicle where the engine might stall out while driving. I'm now thinking about trading the vehicle in. It seems like I am not the only person having a problem with this make and model after reading other consumers' comments with very similar experiences... and in most cases the dealers has no idea what might be causing this problem... or at least they are not admitting to it.

My Dodge Grand Caravan has had a lot of issues and it is only 2 years since I bought it new. yesterday night the engine stopped working while in motion. The car lost power and it was difficult to stop it and move it to the side of the road. I tried to turn it on and it cranked but it didn't start. I tried again a little latter and it worked, but I could feel the difference on my way back home. It was a very dangerous experience, I almost hit the car in front of me and got hit from the car behind me.

Yesterday my van broke down in the middle of a 4-way intersection with my 1 year old and 2 1/2 year old in their car seats. I was stopped at a stop sign and then was pulling forward to turn left, then all of the sudden my steering became stuck and my gas pedal wouldn't work but my van was still running the AC only it was blowing warm air. A picture of an engine light came on. It would not start back up and I was just stuck there helpless with my babies in the back and over 90 degrees outside!!! It's a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan and I've had it for less than a year, and less than 10,000 miles.

Luckily some guy stopped his truck and pushed my van to somewhere more safe and looked under the hood and said everything looked fine then my van started up again. I bought it brand new because of the 5 star safety ratings for my babies and was feeling very excited about owning a new vehicle for the first time.

I immediately took my van into the dealership that I had bought it from the next morning. They said that since the engine light wasn't still on and since it didn't do the same thing while they drove it around the parking lot that there's nothing that they can do. I am so frustrated!!! My father had bought a plane ticket to come here to drive us all the way across the country to visit my family and now I'm afraid to even drive my van around at all. :( I don't even know what to do. I can't afford to just trade it in. I keep having the worst luck with vehicles. I hope that there is a recall for this and I pray that this doesn't happen again to me and kill my little family, or someone else's.

This is a huge deal. I am feeling very helpless and frustrated right now.

The van is less than a year old and is basically a pile of crap sitting in my front yard. We've taken it back to the dealership twice. They don't know what's wrong with it (probably don't really care) and can't fix it. The engine has died 3 times so far while in traffic. Power steering, brakes, etc. were all lost. The car won't start many times when I'm ready to drive. I may have to try 5 times before the engine will turn over at all.

Well, I certainly don't feel comfortable putting my 6 month old baby in this car when the engine dies in traffic. No, it doesn't do it all the time, but it shouldn't do it any of the time. So, we have 4 years left to pay on a piece of crap that I'm terrified to drive. I'm looking into the lemon law to see if there's any way to get out of this van and the payment that it is definitely NOT worth.

I've researched and found that there are also two recalls that this vehicle is part of. I've not received any information about them from the manufacturer, and the "certified dealership" we've taken it to twice hasn't mentioned a thing about these recalls. I also found 3 service reports/issues that apparently haven't become recalls yet. Two of those reports pertain to engine problems. One was issued in August 2014. The other was issued in August 2015. I'm not sure what it takes for these jerks to admit there's a problem and to fix it. Yep, they pretty much suck.

I'm pissed and tired of this mess. I hope there is an end in sight with this horrible vehicle.

This ordeal has been such a pain. Luckily, the people that have handled this issue for us have been quite ideal in their capacity for understanding. This faulty alternator caused us to significantly slow down on the freeway and upon exiting, we lost control over steering and went right into a fire hydrant. Luckily everyone was okay and our little kids were sleeping and were unfazed by it all. After our main kid wagon being in the shop for three weeks to get it fixed, the electrical screening still did not show the alternator error, so the vehicle got returned to us. Our family drove it for about 18 miles when the indicator light came back on. Online, I did not see any recalls for this year and model, but it did show that Dodge had quite a bit of complaints about the Charger having an alternator problem.

Driving to work one morning and it started to stall and the engine light began flashing. I kept driving because I didn't want to mess with towing and after about a mile the light went off. Did try stalling again and flashing engine light came on again and before I made it to the dealership, which is about 3 1/2 miles from my house, it went off again. Dealership kept it for the day and said they reset something on the computer and then one of the technicians drive it home for the night and back again and there was no problem. It has run pretty well since then - one minor hiccup when I drove it this morning.

It has been converted by Braun for my handicapped adult son and I'm so worried that it will stall and stop one of these days when he's in the van in his electric wheelchair with me and then we'll be "up a creek.' The gas mileage has been horrible since I bought it as well but after this happened and they reset things, it's gotten better. So sorry I bought this van.

This is the second time within 400kms my van is in the he shop due to a misfire/engine stall. This only happens at low speeds 30km or under then engine starts to chug and shake obviously misfiring and then altogether stalls out.

I love getting stranded on a freezing cold night.. It's right up there with getting my paps done and loosing toes to frost bite.

I bought a new vehicle thinking it would be nice to have something shiny and new. Should have stuck with my VW now I'm stuck with this POS Dodge that's been in the shop longer than my drive way.
