problem #1

Dec 012015

Grand Caravan SXT 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,962 miles

Purchased vehicle new.

During regular service plus other issues being fixed under warranty, I was told that the transmission oil pan was leaking. Upon having them fix it, they determined my transmission is in need of service based on a large amount of metal shavings in the oil pan.

I have no idea if the leak is related. Perhaps enough fluid leaked out to cause excessive transmission wear. I don't know. I do know that I now need another appt to fix or replace the transmission.

This vehicle has been a nightmare with repairs. It was purchased new and driven very mildly. There is no reason for so many new parts to be failing - some repeatedly.

I have been in contact with FCA Canada about the many issues I have encountered. They do not care. They don't consider their customers important. Keep that in mind when browsing Chrysler products.

Update from Jan 28, 2016: Removal of the pan by the dealer found significant metal particles.... more than particles: pieces of transmission.

turns out one of the planetary gears was loose and failed. Vehicle at dealer having transmission reconditioned.

52,000 kms.....

I asked if any Dodge transmissions last above 100,000 kms... was told plenty do.... Dealer trying to get me to move into a newer model.... I'm not sure I want to continue with Chrysler at this point.
