I just purchased this vehicle under what is called a 'Fresh Start' program with a local dealership. It was not my first choice but my choices were limited. Fortunately, due to the nature of the program, the lender involved insists on covering the vehicle with a warranty. I had already test driven the vehicle and everything seemed in order. It was not until I was driving around town the same day I had signed the papers that I noticed the oil light flickering on and off when stopped at a traffic light. I was perplexed because there did not appear to be any obvious reason for it to be coming on, no oil leaks, no actual low level in the crankcase. It was only after I started doing some research on the internet I discovered that this oil light problem appears to be fairly common on this model, and not just on the 1993. While it does not appear to be a huge mechanical threat at this point, I can see how, if left unfixed it could turn into a huge pain in the ass. There will undoubtedly be the overly concerned passenger who feels they must draw my attention to the fact that the oil light is on, as if I did not know, and then I will have to explain to them that it is flaw in the engine or something like that, but that it is nothing to worry about. This will I am sure lead on to in depth discussion about whether or not I have reported this to the dealer and what can be done to fix it. On the bright side though, it may lead to nervous passengers electing to ride with other people, leaving me and my oil light alone in my big Intrepid. So Gripe I may, rant, perhaps. Get it fixed? That depends on how much it costs.
