The vehicle had the usual filter, and fluid changes and began to slip and now the transmission is out. The fluid in it is still clean. Can't understand why it would just go out like that. This isn't the first problem I have had. Also had to replace the rack-N-pinion on it. The bolt holding it together came out while driving it.

The caller had recall 2C45182 work done on August 17, 2005. Two days later while driving the vehicle it shifted itself into reverse and stalled in traffic. Dealer said she will have to pay to have it towed and repaired. Dealer said they wont even look at it until she paid.. she said she had no trouble before the recall work was done. Manufacturer said to take it back to the dealer.

Consumer received recall 04V021000 concerning shift ignition park interlock. Consumer was concerned because the vehicle went in for a recall. But, problems occurred previously, and still had not been resolved.

Consumer noticed a fluid build up under vehicle after vehicle had been parked. Dealership informed consumer that an unknown clamp, which was tightened to eliminate leaking problem, was causing transmission fluid to leak. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

While switching lanes lost control of steering momentarily. Consumer had to use force to get vehicle under control. Took vehicle to two mechanics, and they said that rack and pinion steering had manufacturing design flaw. 2 independent mechanics stated that the bushings on the steering rack were worn and needed to be replaced, also stated that there was too much play or movement in the entire steering mechanism, however replacement of the bushings would not fix the problem since the play or movement in the steering box will continue to causing wear on the bushing, this problem occurs whenever stopping and turning in or out of a driveway, parking lot, etc, or accelerating after a stop, consumer can hear sounds and it feels like something is kicked out or slips from under vehicle's front end, consumer has complained to dealer on 4 occasions. Transmission hesitates when making shift from 2nd to 3rd, dealer stated operating as designed. Left front splash shield rubbing on tire making a noise, dealer repositioned splash shield.

While driving and coming to a stop vehicle will not go, seems that vehicle is not going into gear, which may cause a crash. In some instances, driver must pull over and restart vehicle. Will be taking vehicle to dealer. The consumer's search on internet showed that the cause for stalling of the vehicle was due to defective transmission.

While driving vehicle would make clunking noise under hood. Took vehicle to dealership & was informed by the mechanic that problem was transmission. When mechanic drove vehicle, nothing happened. Was informed to drive vehicle until noise appeared & bring it back in. Had driven vehicle out of town when it stalled out suddenly. Afterwards was able to go 10mph. Took vehicle back to dealer and transmission was replaced. At present time, the vehicle makes clunking noise in the front area, especially when the front wheel is turned. Lower control arm or transmission failures are possible causes.

3 months ago it needed both inner and outer tie rod ends replaced. Today we went around a corner and the rack and pinion failed. No steering and almost hit a parked car. Vechile towed to repair shop and I am waiting to get a estimate. Front end problems and steering problems since we bought it. Transmission is starting to go and we have had the air conditioner worked on 3 years in a row. We are going to trade it in asap.
