I attempted to have my car smogged and it will not pass due to sludge build up. There is too much smoke coming out of the tailpipe. I really loved this car but cannot afford to get a new engine. That is the only solution that I have received from numerous mechanics. It has cost me over $800 in diagnostics, "repairs", etc.

i bought this car from a lady about 3 weeks ago, i got it for 1,600.00 so i thought i was getting a good deal.. i knew that it need a new inner tye rod and new tires all the way around it.. i fixed those problems but shortly after i am leaking red oil in my drive way, and my exhaust is smoking like its 420..... now i just want to get rid of it before i have any more problems i can't sell past......

I have spoke to my mechanic who is under the impression by the company he buys his motors from that the problem has now been addressed in these replacement engines, but what if it isn't. We took really good care of this car, regular + oil changes, pretty much long distance travel on this engine and should have had it run a lot longer. How is it that every automobile uses oil in it's engine and now this engine they have problem with the oil/sludge???? Was it something new they were doing or figured it was a good way to have people trade their cars in after a couple of years and make more money?
Why isn't anyone making good on this problem. They know about it. Has anyone else dealt with the companies on compensation for this major problem? If so, please tell us your outcome.
My mechanic is trying to help us get reimbursed by the company for this problem. Apparently they have lawyers to deal with the complaints as they come in about this major problem, but they still haven't responded to our mechanic.

OK, this site only allows one issue per post but overall there are at least 10 separate issues and more issues that are inter related. Here goes, if your thinking about buying a Dodge ...well the corporate execs did not name it that for nothing, and worst of all they are laughing about it too. Oh yeah if your thinking about buying the pretty new Dodge models that has been re-designed, DON'T- DO- IT- DODGE !!!- GET -IT - ELSEWHERE.
Okay I had to pour in a quart of motor oil every 400 miles!!!! Honestly!!! That's too hard to believe right? That is 30 quarts for every 12000 miles at a cost of $90/year for the cheap stuff, $180/year if you use the good stuff for this POS. That is $450 over 5 years that could have went somewhere else. And the reasons why I think there was injuries involved is because I had to breathe that stuff in, that stuff is going to come back and haunt me. Sludge anyone?
The biggest sign of sludge was the build up from the end of the exhaust pipe. Swear it was an inch thick after about a year or so. More proof of sludge, changed out the spark plug after putting about 50000 K on them and there looked to be about an inch of build up surrounding the sparking end of it. I was amazed that the engine even fired. Also my pcv valves got really dirty after about a year of use, motor oil would be all in them.
Please do not fool yourself into thinking a Dodge is right for you. I do not really expect for them to warranty my 100,000 mile car, but they should have never put that engine in there in the first place. And the reason I know that it was thrown in there without thought, the infamous battery under the wheel well. Who does that? Not even Yugo, or the cars made in India.
