Intrepid 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,000 miles
My husband bought me a 1999 Dodge Intrepid in November of 2003 with a 2.7 engine and the oil sludges up in the motor no matter how often it is changed causing problem. In March of this year problems began to become apparent because of the sludging. The timing chain guides were chewed up inside of the engine causing damage and costing $450 the mechanic said that, because of the oil sludge, this is a common occurrence in the 2.7 engines. Three months, this June, later the engine begins making more noise now the rod bearings are shot because of the sludging problem, the mechanic has to rebuild the engine cost an approximately $1200. I am without a car and a clue of how to pay for the engine repair and still making payments on the car. I have done research since these problems and have read many stories about people like me in the same situation. I have contacted Chrysler about my problems and received not compensation for my troubles. They have a file on me and stated that there is nothing they will do.

Intrepid 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,000 miles
In July 2002 the engine died on my wife while going to work. We were told to tow it to the dealer. They told us it was engine burned up due to lack of maintenance. I disagreed from the start. I did my own work to save money. The car sat for several months for us to come up with the money to fix it. We still owed 9000 on it as well. We finally got a loan added to our existing car loan to get it replaced. Which was 6500$.the engine replacement was modified by the salvage yard to eliminate the "sludge " problem that apparently attributed to this 2.7 liter Chrysler engine. We have since found out that we are only one of many to have this problem and Chrysler is not admitting to the fact that their oil circulation is terrible and it fries engines big time. We wrote and called Chrysler and the Ohio attorney general with all the info and have had no satisfaction whatsoever. Now we have a friend that has the same problem and they purchased an extended warranty and they will not honor it at all. What is going on with Chrysler that they will not admit to the problem that all garages and engine replacement shops know about, that the average consumer does not and getting deeper into debt due to these cars.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,120 miles
My 1999 Dodge Intrepid with the 2.7 liter V6 engine locked up and siezed on me without warning while traveling at 70 mph on the interstate. I was in the far left hand lane on a 4 lane stretch of the highway and had to manuever my dead vehicle to the right hand shoulder without the assistance of power steering or power brakes, since the car died completely and unexpectedly. I was very lucky that no accident took place under these circumstances.

Re:1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 liter engine blow out. I was encouraged by my mechanic after working on my car a number of times to get rid of it, because of the engine trouble. The car is completely incapacitated and it will take over $3,000 to fix. I still have payments on the car and the amount to repair the car is more than the car is worth.

Intrepid 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,000 miles
I was driving my 1999 2.7 Intrepid to the store January 2004 in the morning. My car stalled going 45 mph I was able to bounce it off a curb and bring it to a stop with out any mishaps, but I had my 7 and 5 year old daughters in the car with me and it shook them up pretty good. Had it towed to a garage and they told me the engine seized and it was going to cost me $6800 to fix it. Im laid off from work with little income coming in along with a $300 a month car payment on a car that doesnt even run. Why? the thing only has 64000 mile on it Chrysler is a joke I will never buy another product from them.
