talked to the dodge service rep .3/08/10 about rebuilding the engine, and was told that they would not rebuild that motor, that the 2.7engine was the worst engine dodge ever built . dodge has had nothing but trouble out of that motor.the service rep recommend replacing the engine with a 3.2 or 3.5 which are a lot better engine

my issue is like many others w/ a 1999 intrepid 2.7. !st my oil light began to flicker...so I got a oil change- no help..so i kept putting oil into the car. Then one day the engine began to tick. I have taken my car to numerous mechanic most of who wont ouch the thing. They all say that it is the engine cuz the 2.7 engine is a waste of metal. Now although the car runs I wont drive it. I'm afraid the car will just stop in the middle of the road and a semi will run over my @ss! I can not believe dodge will not accept responsibility for this issue. It is obvious they know there is a problem. I am curious to hear stories where their 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 engine has never had a prob and they have 150k miles plus. I doubt there are any. C'mon Dodge!

At first the engine would smoke from the tailpipe on and off, and my mechanic advised to change the engine, cost approx cad $3000.00. My friend, a truck mechanic, told me to use 'Engine Oil Plus 50' for older cars and I did ever since till today. However, I do not put pressure on the gas pedal and maintain my speed limit. This entire ordeal is very frustrating but I live with it. Chrysler should be held responsible for this defect. The problem is that oil enters the combustion chamber and emits smoke from the exhaust. The plus50 helps a lot so long as I do not put pressure on the gas pedal. I am also certain there is certain amount of sludge build up??!!! Some months I pour in 2.5litres when required and it helps. But, this is annoying, I tell you, and I use the car when I have to.
Currently I am at 234000.00 kms. I hope this helps you guys out there, and take it easy on the car.

What upsets me the most is the lack of Dodge to acknowledge the problem of a bad engine! Im stuck in Illinois waiting for someone to help me so I can go back to California my home! I have medical problems which are aggravated by the cold and no way to see my medical doctor and it hurts me to see such disregard for the customer! I think someone in charge of Dodge would read this like the CEO so they see how disappointed the customers are of your lack of concern for our problems with YOUR product! I am going to my State representatives and asking them how these companies can get away from fixing there products! Toyota had massive recalls and fixed the problem and sold the most cars last year! Maybe you should fix the problems and that would make us customers feel like you care and in return we would consider another Dodge vehicle!
