Intrepid 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,486 miles
Violent shaking of the vehicle. Loud metal clanging type noise. Sudden lack of acceleration. Stalling and failure of power steering at 45 mph. I was returning home from my son's school in heavy traffic and we almost crashed into a brick wall. Fortunately I was strong enough to maintain enough control of the steering wheel to somewhat safely stop the vehicle on the side of the road.

The front power windows fell down without using the controls. There were fuse/wiring shortages, headlight/interior light flickered without warning, the belts, main power train, A/C belt, and the compressor caught fire and the power steering had become inoperative. The doors did not close properly.

I purchased my 1999 Dodge Intrepid w/28,840 miles. From there it had unreasonably been a lemon and into the "five star" Chrysler dealer at least 8 times. The vehicle had persistant steering issues and abnormalities, wandering, play, abnormal change in sensitivity while driving, noise, tire wear. Dealer could never "duplicate the problems'. the engine blew up at 33,000 miles, had to have replaced. Transmission failed shortly after, had to be rebuilt. Input/output speed sensors failed twice. ABS allowed brakes to lock up twice. Tcm and PCM needed updating due to flawed previous revisions. Power window failed, front bumper, grill paint wearing. Obviously this vehicle was a lemon. The vehicle was finally wrecked after sudden poor steering control after trying to get the dealer to do something many times. DaimlerChrysler denies any manufacturing responsibility. I do not see how they can get away with this. There are many others experiencing similar premature problems that should not be occuring as such. I have started a website against DaimlerChrysler - [xxx] - email address is [xxx] - address: [xxx] san leandro, ca [xxx] parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

1999 Dodge Intrepid ES 34000 miles: Steering intermittently is very loose and awkward, steering sometimes is tight like it should be. Steering wheel has limped to the left several times while stopped or driving slow and steering feels really strange. When steering wheel is moved back and fourth quickly only from left to center when vehicle is stopped there is slight knock or bump sound in steering. Steering wheel jerks to the right during medium to hard or hard acceleration sometimes in automatic usually in autostick. When steering wheel did not function and return as usual a couple times I almost wound up in an accident. Vehicle sometimes also sways funny when steering is acting up. The steering's sensitivity and attitude intermittently changes. Sometimes there is a slight vibration felt in steering when braking or driving. There is sometimes excessive movements in steering. Brought vehicle into hayward auto Chrysler-Jeep dealership where purchased several times. Dealership found missing left strut washer, replaced. Dealership seems to never be able to duplicate or find problem. Technician (supposed shop foreman) did admit he felt the slight vibration in steering when braking while on test drive but did nothing about it and couldn't really explain it. Dealership said they'd put it on alignment machine and check for anything loose when I brought it back for spk replacement. They just told me it was fine with no data from supposed alignment. The car has had many problems since purchasing it with 28000 miles and I feel they are sick or seeing it. I strongly beleive they did not put the vehicle on the alignment machine or check for anything loose since they are sick of seeing it and beleive there is no problem. I have had others drive my vehicle when the steering is awkward and they all verify that it does not feel right. I have test driven two similar Dodge Intrepids and both of them do not drive or steer like this. I am taking the vehicle to another dealership soon.
