Since early this year, this car has been making clunking noises. Replaced worn suspension parts and even the CV axles in a vain attempt to fix the noise. The noise only got more obscene, rechecked the car and took it to transmission shop in April. Even though the whole drive train porpoised when putting it into gear, the manager said this was okay. Today, while getting another part for this heap, a gentlemen at the junkyard informed me that the transmission mount was going bad (something I would have liked to tell the transmission guy). I though I was going to have to replace the whole transmission because of the clunking, not an option on a car worth less than $3000. The Intrepid has three power train mounts, two for the engine and one for the transmission, which wears out quickly because there's a lot of pressure on it. The engine and transmission are set like a rear wheel drive car, but it's a front wheel drive. The torque from this is hard on the rubber mount that isn't up to the task. Chrysler should have added a mount at the very front, or abandoned the configuration altogether.
