The water pump is the most recent of so many issues I have had with this car. All with the cooling system. The water pump has been replaced before as well as the thermostat. Being that the car has only 61 thousand miles on it and has had proper maintenance, this should not be an issue again. My mechanic told me I should just get rid of the car as these engines are known for so many problems and that he couldn't promise that in 6 months I wouldn't be in the same situation all over again. I have researched this engine and found that there may be a class action law suit against Chrysler because they have done nothing to fix this well known problem!!!!

I bought this car used a year ago and it seems to be falling apart. The oil light comes on at an idle, the water pump is bad, my check engine light goes on and off for no reason, and my dashboard is cracked. And what really sucks is there is no recall on this stuff and a friend of mine from work has the exact same problems and his car has 10,000 miles less than mine! And because it leaks antifreeze constantly, the heat and defrost don't work. I am just not happy!

We went through 4 or 5 jugs of antifreeze. The mechanic then tells us the water pump is out in addition to this little part which would keep the antifreeze from leaking.

Took the car to a local shop after my wife stated there was a puddle under the car. The shop found the lower hose connection/thermostat shroud under the engine, BEHIND the alternator, had a crack and was leaking. Secondly, the coolant resevoir had cracks as well. Parts replaced, including hoses, thermostat, flush and fill, and test drive, $500. Still leaking, out the weep hole for the water pump. Where is that? Behind the timing chain cover, the pulleys, the belts, the radiator, the a/c condenser, and the bumper. 8 hour job minimum, at $800 plus. Car was appriased at $1500, and I still owe $3000 on it. Piece of american motors junk!!
