Journey

  • 17,000 miles
My 2009 Dodge Journey has less than 18000 miles on it, I drive a total of 9-10 miles both ways to work. I've had to replace the brakes twice for rusting out. Peeved at the tech's comment "you don't drive it enough" as if I am stupid woman. In 2010 I ask for my tires to be checked cause they were constantly low, looking at my invoice from 1/18/10 I asked for them to be checked and all they did was correct pressure. Now I hear about these stems prematurely cracking and after just buying my first replacement set of tires was told, 3 of the stems are cracked and they (tire dealer, not car dealer) couldn't replace cause they have some sensor chip in them. In addition, the tires would consistently lose pressure until the stems are replaced.

I was driving to exit the hospital when for the 4th time since I've had the Dodge the breaks went completely out then locked up a loud noise was heard and the back tires locked up with the breaks. I've changed them 4 times in the 6 months I've had the car, they get fixed and 2 weeks later the breaks are bad again. It's very dangerous if I were on the highway it would have caused a accident. This car was poorly made especially the breaks.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,266.

Journey

  • 34,903 miles
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the rotors, calipers, transfer case, and front passenger seat sensor caught fire, the vehicle also experienced a loss of power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the brake rotors and the brake caliper were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also had the vehicle repaired at the dealer for the transfer case malfunction. Upon inspection for the seat sensor failure, the contact noticed that a rubber boot was not installed, which resulted in the insulation igniting. The contact extinguished the flames and placed electrical tape at the end of the wire. The vehicle was able to be restarted after numerous attempts. The tire sensor also malfunctioned, which resulted in the tire constantly going flat. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14373000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 34,903.

Journey 6-cyl

  • 116,500 miles
We bought this vehicle in April of 2014 with approximately 116,000 miles on it. The day after we bought the vehicle it began not starting and leaving us stranded for minutes to hours at a time. I have six children that regularly ride in this vehicle with me, and it has left us stranded at least once a week (often much more) since we bought it. It has a brand new key fob (bought and programmed by a Dodge dealership when we purchased the vehicle). It has had two starters replaced (one before and one just after we bought it, on the assumption that they had received a bad starter). I have been in a Dodge dealership getting my oil changed, when it wouldn't start for them, and they wouldn't put it on the computer to isolate the issue, because they didn't have time. When we attempt to start the car, all we will get is a click. All of the lights, radio, etc work just fine, but it will not start. Sometimes it takes two or three attempts to start. Sometimes it is well over an hour. We are aware that our vehicle is under recall for a win detent ring, however, all of the dealerships we've spoken with say that they don't have the part and can't give us an estimated time on when it will be available. This is extremely concerning to me, given that the issue could cause my vehicle to shut down while I am driving at high speeds on the highway with my children. We also had new brakes put on when we purchased it (less than 10,000 miles ago), and it already needs new brakes. Please investigate this issue. We can't get a straight answer from Dodge as to what could be the issue. I am concerned over the fact that numerous times we've been stranded in extreme heat, and now we are going into winter where we get extreme cold. It is unsafe. Thank you

The 2009 Dodge Journey brake pads and rotors wearout prematurely and create a safety hazard. I believe that the brakes are under-designed for the vehicle weight and should be redesigned and replaced under recall. I am a very conservative driver yet still have to replace the pads and rotors every 20,000 to 24,000 miles.

I purchased the car in January of 2014 from a used car lot (which I will never do again) and it was sold with transmission leaks. I just found this out after taking the car in for a hole in one of the coolant hoses less than a month ago because it wasn't leaking on the ground. I started hearing a grinding, squeaking and ticking sound that my mechanic couldn't figure out. I just had the breaks done so they are essentially brand new. I had to have the tires replaced because they were worn to the thread. Going up a hill yesterday, I heard a loud noise and then the car wouldn't move. This left me in the middle of the road blocking traffic with 5 children in the car. Turns out there's a cracked transfer case. Sounds like there are many others like me out there having similar problems with this particular year make and model and a recall is in order....again!!!!

Journey 4-cyl

  • 36,000 miles
Rotors and brakes went out at 36,000 and had to be replaced due to being too small for the vehicle. Of course this was just out side of warranty. Recall was called after we replaced them. Went out again at 45,000 and again at 85,000. I had a knocking noise from under neath and took it in and it was covered under power train. Had to take it in again at 40,000 knocking noise again and luckily it covered under power train. At 45,000 my Journey wouldn't start and just didn't know when it would start 30 minutes to an hour. This has happened several times and was told it was the key ignition control and that they are back logged and couldn't replace it but charged $100 for diagnostic again and have had to take it in again since. At 75,000 I was left stranded due to over heating and had to take it in again and it was the temperature control sensor. Brakes went out again at 95,000 and now at 107,00 the check engine light is on and did a diagnostic and it's the throttle runner control is stuck open and unable to get it in until a week later due to the dealer to busy. I think this has gone on to long with these Dodge Journeys and it's time for some recalls on them. I will never but a Dodge again!

I was driving there was a loud pop, I didn't know what it was until I tried to stop. I barely had any brakes the brake pad had broken so I had to have brakes put on it. I had just purchased the vehicle already having to put brakes on at 33000 miles I thought something may be wrong but didn't know for sure. Ever since then I have to put brakes every 3000 miles and rotors too some times. Something needs to be done about this before someone gets hurt or killed, I know there have been several complaints about them.
