Horn will randomly go off, even while driving, for as long as it wants. Absolutely annoying when it wakes the neighbors up in the middle of the night or you're stuck in rush hour and your horn decides to just blare for awhile...

At first it was just the horn/alarm going off at random times. The next thing to happen was for the battery to die, without warning. Come to find out the TIPM was sending power to random things in the car even when the car was off with no key in it. You could hear a clicking sound that comes from what appears to be the fuse box, but actually it is the TIPM. This would only happen randomly and was a minor nuisance, however, it gradually got to the point where it was every night that it would happen.

In order to prevent this from happening, I disconnect the direct power supply coming from the battery when I know the car will be sitting for a long period of time (at work or overnight). This stops the battery from going dead.

I have been having this problem since Sept and have been in one accident because of this stalling on the freeway. No one was injured. Since then it repeatedly will stop turning on without any warning. Have had it to several places and over $1200 to fix because Chrsyler does not want to acknowledge there is an issue! I bought it used and have it less than a year.

Journey was not starting intermittent problem. Diagnosed as the TIPM . Recall notice states it could shut off while driving possibly causing crash. Since we know the TIPM is bad it is unsafe to drive. It has been awaiting recall repair, TIPM replacement for over a month at the dealership. No parts available they say. We need our vehicle for every day use. No loaner provided. I don't know how much longer we will lose the use of our vehicle. No end in sight.

For the last 2 months, I have been without headlights on my car. The dealership tried to do a "work around" was unsuccessful & told me it was due to faulty TIPM. Unfortunately, the TIPM is on national back order with no ship date in sight. After doing some research, I've found that Chrysler is well aware of the problems with the TIPM & there is currently a class action lawsuit in which the 2010 Dodge Journey has been added to the list of problem vehicles.

In addition to not having use of headlights, I have had start problems resulted in a replaced battery & continued start problems. My research also shows that others have experienced problems including their car stalling while on the road or other electrical malfunctions including uncontrollable windows, door locks, windshield wipers, radio & fuel pump problems.

This has been a huge inconvenience & I am now concerned about safety & reliability in this car. Currently, I am having to leave work everyday at 4:30 to get home before dark. I work in the real estate industry & need to be on the road, often with clients in my car. This also serves as a family car with my 21 mos old son riding with me & I am pregnant. This problem has also resulted in us having to cancel our Thanksgiving travel plans as we can not afford the high car rental rates + the $1000++ costs to repair our car (whenever the TIPM finally comes in).

Chrysler knows about this problem & is knowingly allow customers to continue on the road with no help or warning!

defective TIPM

Car fails to start. It is an intermittent problem. When it doesn't start, I have to jump start or charge the battery for a few minutes.

Update from Jan 13, 2016: I found a workaround for my problem. A bit inconvenient, but it works. I installed a battery cutoff switch (manual) to disengage the battery when the car is off over night. I just pop the hood and either tighten or loosen the switch to activate or deactivate the battery. I have had this in place for 2 months and it works great. Just have to remember to turn it off in the evening.

Really unacceptable. When this all started again, we were on the way to Florida for a vacation. We were instructed to drive the car if driveable to nearest Chrysler MaxCare dealership. This was Bay Chrysler Dodge. We took it in and set up to drop off same day after unloading all belongings at hotel. Left car. Picked up car. 10 miles down the road electrical malfunctions started again. Made for a memorable first day of vacation.

Again, too many to note. Multiple possible electrical failures. This is SO DISTRACTING to me that it startled me while turning today. Wipes should NOT go on at their own will, especially when turning on a busy road that is not familiar to me. Totally unacceptable.

I was done with the issues after fighting with them all least year. THIS OCCURRED ON THE WAY DOWN TO VACATION IN FLORIDA. I spent the ENTIRE FIRST DAY dealing with this. After it was "fixed", the issue happened again not 10 miles from the dealership we went to (Florida). DISGUSTED.

Our car started honking randomly while driving and while the car is turned off a few months ago. We also started noticing coming out to our car and the windows being rolled down while the car was off. We called the dealership and they told us to replace the battery which we did. Days later it started going off again. Brought it back to the dealership and they were convinced it was the key fob. We chose to only replace one key fob which cost us almost $400 and still did not fix the problem. Other problems with the electrical system began happening such as the flashers going off randomly and the car shut off while my husband was driving it to the dealership. They have had the car for 3 weeks and have found no solution yet.

It all began driving down the highway in the summer, we was passing a van that was escorting a bicycle rider. I was looking at them like they were crazy for honking like mad at us. Only to realize it was MY car that was honking. It would honk randomly after that, while driving, or even while it was parked in my drive way. The keys were in my house in my purse!

To make the horn stop honking, I had to pull the fuse from the fuse box. I now have no horn at all. The CD player quit working almost immediately after I purchased the car. That frustrated me since I have two children that love watching movies (one of the main reasons for purchasing this type of vehicle). We are unable to use the rear tv for anything but satellite tv.

Next, I began noticing random lights flashing from the front and rear lights especially the turn signals. The vehicle was turned off, with no key in the ignition. Next, the car was completely DEAD. So I purchased a new battery. It lasted 4 days. Dead again. After I would jump start the car, I noticed a lot of clicking from the fuse box. It would click while running and after I had parked the car with no key in the ignition.

Over the winter, the car had to be jump started at least twice a week even with new battery. I pulled the fuses on anything that could be draining the battery, the radio, navigation, mirror, controls in the steering wheel. As long as the fuses are pulled AND I leave the key in the ignition, it will start the next day. I have been stranded many times. It is completely unsafe for children. I will never ever purchase a Dodge Journey again.

Extremely disappointed with Chrysler, Dodge, and especially the dealership that I purchased this junk from, who wants to charge me a fortune to fix a vehicle that is obviously a LEMON!! Chrysler needs to be held responsible for fixing this

Hi, I am a Gatineau, QC resident and I recently experienced the “NO TURN, NO START” problem on my Dodge Journey 2010 (42,000 KM). Once the intermittent problem went away, I drove it to the dealer and as they could not readily reproduce the problem, they ran a AVR test and discovered a battery problem (A dead cell). $262. I told them that I didn't believe that was the cause of the problem but accepted the fact that the battery could be starting to fade off (5 years old). At that time they suggested that the starter would be the next thing to change if the problem reoccurred.

I search the net to discover that a whole lot of people have experienced the same problem. So I succeeded to reproduce the problem and investigated possible causes that I read about on the net.

I drove it back to the dealer and they mentioned that they had all the information they required and didn’t need to see my printed information from the net. (THEY DIDN'T TRY TOO HARD TO USE THAT INFO. INSTEAD, THEY FOUND A QUICK SOLUTION TO AN NON EXISTENT PROBLEM NAMELY THE BATTERY)

This time they tried harder, reproduced the problem and discovered that the TIPM was faulty. The technician also told me that they have changed many TIPM on vehicle when this module was introduced. Now that my extended warranty is over (Novembre 2014) this problem is costing me over $1269.

IS THERE A RECOURSE AGAINST CHRYSLER CANADA TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED SO THAT OTHER OWNERS DON’T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN?

Update from Jun 8, 2015: The vehicle has been working fine since my last visit. I have not heard of any recalls or recourse against Dodge to date.

The car would not start sometimes. First Chrysler changed some sensor in my car for $560, and it was totally unnecessary because the problem persisted. Then they did proper diagnostics at another location and found defective TIPM. This repair cost me $1200, plus $200 rental car. There is supposed to be a recall for faulty TIPM, but Chrysler has not done it so far.

I hope class-action lawsuit which is in progress now will be successful, and I'll get my money back.

Journey is sitting at the dealership as I type! So sick of this POS!!!! Horn is possessed, 3rd NEW battery to be installed since Oct, that's less than 3 months people, key fob gets stuck in ignition, gauges have a mind of their own AND did you know you can completely pull the battery out and the lights STILL WON'T GO OFF????

Took over an hour on the "machine" to have the guy tell us it is an instrument cluster issue. Welllll, you must prepay the $772.00 to have one ordered, did you know they are ALL refurbished parts? So we did. OOOOHHH and he is only 90% sure this is the issue! Then told the next day it might be FEB before they get it. WHAT???? They are on back order! To me that says, DODGE WE HAVE A PROBLEM! 2 days later, when my husband was getting ready to call about getting a loaner, the guy calls and said that it might be in tomorrow. HUH????

To be continued......
