Ignition key turns off accidentally while driving - unsafe and can cause a fatal accident.

The car turned itself off while in traffic on cary parkway. Tried to restart the car by reinserting fob. It took 10 minutes of removing and reinserting fob in ignition before car started. In the meantime, cars behind me almost ran into me.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that it was difficult to start the vehicle using the key. The contact had to turn the key in the on and off position numerous times before the vehicle would start. The dealer attempted to diagnose the failure, but was unsuccessful. The manufacturer was notified and was in the process of assisting the contact. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 23,000. Updated 11/221/11 the consumer stated he had to turn the key numerous times, to get the vehicle to start.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving 60 mph the vehicle lost power and the key fob popped out causing the vehicle to stall. While the vehicle was being pulled to the side of the road, she started the engine and all of the warning lights illuminated. The rpms began to increase and vehicle started accelerating as if nothing happened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated they were unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified and advised her to take the vehicle back to the dealer and let them repair the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000. Updated 10/18/11 the key fob popped into the accessory position while driving at 60 mph. A recall existed at the time for the problem. But the dealer was not aware of it, so they wouldn't fix it. The trim ring was installed after the dealer was made aware of the already existing recall. Updated 11/07/11
