2012 Journey Stalled in the middle of the QEW heading East to Niagara-on-the-Lake. I was really concerned and felt very unsafe. OPP Officer from Niagara Falls stopped to assist and helped me phone CAA. I was towed to the Performance Chrysler dealership on Ontario Street, St Catherines. I was told I need a new Alternator and a new battery since it wasn't holding the charge. I picked up my car around 4pm on Friday Dec 20th/2019 and proceeded to drive home to Niagara-on-the -Lake on the QEW. I got to Virgil Village and my car stalled again. I phoned CAA and after sitting around and freezing for an hour I was towed back to the dealership which was closed. I left the car and waiting to hear back.

engine stalls/dies while driving

This is a very common issue with Dodge Journey and very hard and costly to fix as it needs a lot of work to dismantle many parts of the engine to reach the targeted fix. Ignoring this fault is very bad for the engine, as well as the gas high consumption. Also you will lose engine power and cannot perform remote start anymore as engine check light will be on. I tried to change engine oil every 1000 hoping it would help but nothing cured.

Had this truck since 2016. Stopped at a red light. Proceeded thru traffic light, then engine quits... no warning lights on the dashboard, no smells, no weird noise, no smoke, no leaks... just engine quits at the intersection and had to push it. I noticed a trail of drops, though it was coolant liquid, no biggy, but "NO"... it was engine's oil... Dodge 2012 with 165k mile and regular oil service. WHAT THE FUDGE!!! Now I'm out thousands of dollars $$$$ and the engine will never be the same.. Yes, IT LOCKED !! Never had any issues with it. Took very good care of it! Main transportation!!!!!

My 2012 Dodge Journey 3.6l crew has been consistently stalling out while coming to a slow motion and it is unsafe to drive. When coming off the highway and reducing speed the vehicle will shake and when I come to a full stop it also picks up speed randomly without excelling the gas pedal. Sometimes I have to put the vehicle in neutral to just to keep it form shaking and stalling out. It’s like the car is not gearing down when you come to a stop. The car stalled on me a total of 3 times when attempting to yield at busy intersections with cars coming up behind me fast. I restarted it a total of three times before I got it going again. I read hundreds of issues and nothing is being done, there are no engine lights or errors and something needs to be done to fix this. I feel like it’s going to take someone getting killed before they fix this issue!

  • months ago it stalled at a busy intersection, took it in and they kept it over the weekend with no issues identified. last Friday the 18th of August and the 23rd it did it again and a very busy intersection coming off the freeway. I took a video and will post later. Very,Very dangerous!!!! It has almost stalled numerous times on the freeway during traffic and on the road when slowing down. Took it in today and told them everything, irritated that they do not seem to understand how incredibly dangerous this is. I have been lucky to not have my kids in the car at any of this times. I even mentioned the recalls and that I have done my research of how this is not an uncommon issue, still they act like it is nan isolated issue. I will check back to let you all know how it goes. I plan on getting rid of the car asap, which bites since it is almost paid off!

Ever since our accident with this 2012 Journey on 01/23/2016, it has been in and out of body and repair shops for the past 9

months. have not even parked the car outside our home. each time we take out from the shop drive it around for about 45

minutes, engine light comes on, smoke starts to come out of the hood and just completely stops, dies or over heats on us.

have it towed again .This has been an on going issue for past 9 months and now repair shop tells us we need a

whole new engine, will cost us 4,500.00 which i cannot afford. ready to return it back to the dealer as a voluntary repo. i am

frustrated and all stressed out not having to be without a vehicle this long and yet still pay for the vehicle and insurance

which have not been driven.

Update from Oct 25, 2016: I was now informed by the mechanic that my car needs a whole new engine which will cost me $2,500 plus another $2,000

to have it installed and i can not afford to pay for this amount am just ready to give up the car back to the dealer. i really liked

this car but costing me to much money to have it repaired. What advice do you have for me at this point . I am all stressed

out and depressed since I have been without my car since last part of January, 2016 but sitll paid for the insurance and barely

meet the car payment even though it was not in use.

Journey Crew 3.6L / V6

I know the site says to enter the complaint as many times as it happens, but I would prefer not to have to enter 10+ entries.

The car stalls periodically while driving. It usually happens when I am slowing down and about to make a turn. It has happened to me, my husband and two daughters. Not long after it started stalling, around 60k miles, the check engine light went on. I brought to the dealership and they reset the sensors. Within a couple of weeks, it stalled and the check engine light went on. The light was related to cam shaft/crank shaft.

The dealership replaced the cam shaft/ crank shaft and there is no fee as it was under warranty. Within a month, it stalled again. I brought it back and the dealership kept it a few days to see if they could recreate the problem. They could not. They said there was one bulletin from Dodge that suggested looking at the pcv valve. They said it needed to be replaced and it cost me over $200.

A month later, it stalled again, two times within the same day. I brought it back to the dealership and they kept the car for nearly six weeks. They said the field engineer didn't want me driving the car due to the safety hazard. Recently, they told me they need to give the car back since they couldn't recreate nor diagnose the problem.

I am so frustrated! Since I have had it back, it hasn't stalled, but it does seem like it has come close. I have resorted to driving with a video recorder to capture it stalling when it happens. I have an arbitration hearing in a couple of weeks and welcome any feedback from people who may have experienced similar behavior.

Journey SXT 3.6L V6

Wife was driving home with the kids after work at night. Car jerked a couple of times then stalled. She was on a hill when it happened and put the vehicle in park but even though the shifter was in park it was still in gear and started rolling backwards when she let off the brake pedal.( thankfully emergency brake is functional!) dash lights were going crazy as well. Also the day before the fuel gauge quit working and even though she filled up the tank it showed empty and the low fuel light and message were on. I got there and the car was still acting crazy and would not restart. We were sitting behind the car waiting for the tow truck and the interior lights started going on and off on there own. After some research it sounds like the tipm issue that have plagued Chrysler products. Chrysler needs own up to the problem and recall all the cars with these tipm instead of just a few years of cars. The 2011-12 jeeps were recalled for this issue but only 2010 journey. The jeeps have the same motors and electronics as the journeys yet they won't recall them. Unfortunately we just bought a new 300 a month ago hopefully they used different electronics!
