Plastic housing is not a good idea, last time I checked extreme heat can cause plastic to melt. Pay good money for a vehicle and they cut corners just to strengthen their bottom line. Very disappointed in Dodge.

Back in November of 2016 I found out that my coolant system had a crack in the plastic adapter housing. I kept putting coolant in it until July 2017 when I finally got fed up and replaced it. The reason I hesitated to have it done was because I was told that the plastic part had not been changed by the manufacturer and because of the car goes from hot to cold making the plastic weak the plastic crack would more than likely happen again. The mechanic was right because today my car started experiencing the exact same thing it had experienced back in November of 2016. All my coolant was gone from my car so I'm sure I'm having the exact same problem again not even a year after replacing the part.

I cannot believe that this car has plastic on the engine. What Nut, designed this CRAP @@#$$#@ ?

This should be a cost covered by the dealer. Why would dodge think that we should pay for their poor judgement of putting plastic on an engine……Dum, Dum, Dum…..I want a refund, ASAP.

OK, I've contacted Dodge to report the design flaw that is the plastic adapter housing and the need for 2 thermostats. The cost to repair the vehicle is $670 plus tax. Apparently my Journey needs a new adapter housing, 2 thermostats, o-rings, and 2 or 3 hoses. WTF Dodge?!?!?!?! I bought this damn vehicle new in order to avoid a repair like this. I've maintained my car according to the manufacturer's suggestions and this is what I get.

The customer service person was super unhelpful. Maybe others with this problem should report it to them so they might finally see that cheap plastic on a hot engine is not the best way to build a car. I have no idea how I'm going to get this fixed since I have 4 kids and a car payment. Sorry I'm pissed and frustrated.

Well, I found it interesting that someone had the exact same thing happen around the same mileage. It sounds like it might be a common problem with this part being plastic on this vehicle. The other complaint was...

This is an engineering issue and should be resolved, I should not pay for this as it is something that is going to recur in another 50,000 miles or less due to the heat being so hot on the thermostat area. If you take plastic and put it in an oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit it is going to melt. Does not matter what type of plastic it may be. They are replacing with the same plastic that was in it before and charging me to do so.

I just feel it should have been under the warranty work. Good to know for in the future.
