My gear shift is stuck in park. We had to take off the housing to manually release the interlock on the shifter.
I contacted my area Dodge dealer to find out if we are part of the recall and NO OF COURSE we are not!! It is really funny to me how they pick & choose which years, models they will cover in the recall process. This is a common occurrence with this Make Model & Year but yet my vehicle is not covered- it is obviously a manufacturers defect!!!
I am not sure how much this will cost to fix but I do know that it is an issue that I would warn anyone buying a dodge about!
if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

I love the idea of having a station wagon. All the convenience of hauling stuff in the back without being a pickup truck or shudder a mini van. Plus, the Dodge Magnum is pretty cool looking.
Unfortunately, the idea of having a unique car also includes having a car that will hold up over the long term.
Since owning the Magnum, I've had to completely rebuild the front suspension because it caused the car to violently shake on the road. The mechanic said that I was very lucky the tie rod didn't fall off.
Whew, Dodge'd that bullet.
Unfortunately, after 18 months, it's beginning to shake again.
Then there's the back windshield wiper which fell off and the lower trim that's coming off the car for some reason...
Now, this evening, right before the 4th of July four day weekend, the transmission locks in park. I drove the car around this morning, parked it and was going somewhere this evening and the shifter was stuck in park. SERIOUSLY?! What car does that?
I've tried rocking the car, pumping the brakes, finessing the shifter but nothing has worked. It's stuck in park in my driveway and that's that.
I've never heard of this problem before but I guess I'm thankful it didn't decide to go into park at highway speeds and crash or burn or cause injury or death. Thank you for that, Dodge? Is that what it takes for you do take responsibility and fix this issue?
After some research, I've found others who have had these same issues. Obviously, the problem isn't isolated. Stand behind your product and institute a voluntary recall and fix this problem, Dodge.

I was out on a Saturday morning, came back home and parked in my driveway. Got the family together and piled in the car for dinner and movie and I can't get the car to shift out of park. My son, the mechanic, took a look at it and tried the brake over ride but that didn't work. We tried rocking the car in hopes it would relieve some tension on the shifter spring- that didn't work. We checked all of the fuses- that didn't work. So I checked online to see if anyone else was having the same problem.
Turns out there are quite a few people having this problem and they end up having to fix it themselves because their VIN number is not on the list of cars that have been recalled for the exact same problem. Knowing I have to pay for it I call the dealership and they admit they have seen several cars with the same problem and are not covered by the recall. To top it all off I bought the extended life time warranty on this car to cover not just the power trans but the whole car and it is not covered!!! I've not mis-used my car in any way. It is completely apparent that this is a manufacturer defect but it is still not covered by my warranty.
If anyone knows how to start up a class action suit I will be more than willing to do the work.

ON 8,2,2012 a young lady got in her dodge magnum to go home but she could not get her car out of park, the very next day i got in my 2007 dodge magnum to go home and the same thing happened to me. i got my car towed to DON WHITES TIMONIUM DODGE as well as the other young lady, i rented a car which cost me $248.00 for the weekend plus $505.80 for the repair plus tow fees.I got home searched the web to find that was a common problem for dodge products period not just the magnum. just like dodge has always had a problem with transmissions this seems to be yet another problem, that both dodge knows about and Chrysler knows about. yes i called Chrysler 18555255085 to see what they were going to do about this on going problem, after getting the run around and trying to find out why haven"t this problem been deemed a recall or at least fix the cars that come in with this problem. the answer i got was everybody with this problem pays. And my problem with that is you take a jacked up part off of a car and replace it with the same jacked up part that you know is going to fail its just a matter of when. that being the case i could have went to the junk yard and got the part and put it on myself, taking the same chance the only difference is this part is under warranty for the next 12 months. This is such a common problem that my cousin from Atlanta Georgia told me what to do to get the car in gear,i live in Baltimore MD not only that when the tow truck driver got to my car he did the same thing my cousin told me, take the gear shifter cover off look for a pink button put your foot on the brake push the button in the car went into gear. you would think that after president Obama bailed them out the last thing Chrysler would want to do is piss a customer off but they cant help but shoot themselves in the freakin foot. My son and my daughter both have magnums and the car i had before the was a dodge stratus the car i had before that was a dodge intrepid. This is how they treat their repeat customers. but this will be the last time, i don't need you your car, you need me but you wont get me, I brought a NISSAN ALTIMA and i am trying to talk my son daughter cousin and friends to buy foreign cars from this day on so maybe next time U will go under. Because people aren't dying cars aren't flipping over or catching on fire they wont fix their problem but continue to keep making the same part and stick it to their customers every chance they get. This is just the beginning the next stop is all of the news stations and everybody else that will listen.

This problem has once again happened, this time with my 2007 Magnum R/T. The shifter in this vehicle is having the same as my 2006 Charge R/T had in Jan 2o11. I once again understand that the recall does not cover this vehicle also. I am a Dodge person owning also 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. I am having second thoughts since none of my vehicles seams to be recallable.

I went to McDonald's to grab lunch on the way to have my 1 year olds Christmas pictures taken at my appointment scheduled for 2pm. After exiting the drive thru, I pulled into the first parking spot to get myself and her situated so we could eat, and made the mistake of putting the vehicle in park........not knowing it would stay that way until I had it towed away! I tried everything I could think of or hear about, including the emergency release switch located in the center console area....but what do you know it didn't work either!! It's funny to see other people have the SAME PROBLEM yet Dodge does nothing about it. I guess if people aren't getting killed they don't care enough to stand behind their products and fix them!!
