I have a 1995 Dodge Neon that I dearly love. It has approximately 115,000 miles on it right now. The speedo has been spastic for nearly 2 years.....so I'm having to guess. sometimes it works fine, other times not. I use the tach to gauge my speed....so it's not that big of a deal. I have the original plugs in the car and the original water hoses. Timing belt and other belts replaced at 70,000 miles. The car uses almost no oil between oil changes, gets 30+ mpg city and 42-44 mpg hwy. I've had the car up to 125 mph at about 3 years old. Handles like a sports car due to the Sport Suspension I ordered. The car will be 16 years old in April 2010. I take car of it. I don't drive like a putz. Proper break in when new, by varying the speeds up to 60mph for the first 500 miles. No jacket rabbit starts until after 1,000 miles. Warm up for a minute or two when very cold and drive slowly until fully warmed up. Oil and filter changes done by me every 6 mo. or 3,000 miles. I'm almost 62 years old and I treat my car with respect....that's why it lasts! I LOVE my Neon so much I bought an '05. No problems with it at all. The '95 costs $11,000 new...the '05 costs $10,000 new and fully equipped! Neons are Great....if you treat them right!

Instrument cluster just goes dead. If you hit a bump or warm up the car it sometimes comes back. The individual gauges, fuel, water temp, speedo, tach are all OK. I have tracked it to the two floating connectors behind the cluster. If I push down on the dash, they all come to life and then die when I release pressure. Can I disassemble the connector on the car side(harness) to examine the individual pins? I have already checked the cluster side(printed circuit). My 98 Neon does this also and most of the cars we looked at did it too.

All of my gauges go dead and jump back up. Most of the time they aren't working though. I am trying to figure out what the problem is because i have never had this problem before now. Sometimes it will come back for a day or so then it will go dead again. I need help with this problem so if anyone can help me out, please.
