I've had my head gasket crack twice already. the first time was around 54k then again around 85K. Now that check engine light is on again and I'm sure it's going to be the smae story. I'm at 184k now. I know my mileage is high but I keep my oil changed every 3-4K and filters. The fuel punp, water pump, and harmonic balancer along with timing belt(2nd time) and hoses were all replaced about 10 months ago. If it weren't for this extremely expensive repair cost I wouldn't have a problem. It seems everything cost 800+ to repair on this car. Even the fuel pump ran close to $700. I'm about ready to let the finanace company take it back. I still have another year of payments and if it's the head gasket again I won't be gettng it repaired again for the 3rd time. Still have the original transmission thought and that seems to be fine. Doesn't do a lot of good if the engine keeps crapping out. The tow truck guys are starting to know me on a first named basis. And they all say that this is a common problem on these Neons. I think I'll find a tow guy to take with me when I shop for my next car.

There is no way that under 100,000 km (60k miles) that a head gasket should crack. Chrysler of course will not admit any wrong doing on their part. They say there are no reported problems however many mechanics state there are as they've replaced many of these. Also there is an updated one, why!?!

Well I would like to say that dodge did a bad job on these 2.0's in 99. this car would dump oil into the water/but not water in the oil. about four quarts every 4 weeks. you would have to flush out the oil and put head gasket repair in if you didn't want to send the money to get it fixed.....
