complain, complain, complain. all the dealer said was it was a issue with neons.
Finally I just replaced the brake system and haven't had a problem since. The rear brakes that came off the car are hardly worn, but the passenger side you can see that they didn't wear properly. The drums were fine. It seems that the springs that hold the brake linings in place were crossed.

the way the breaks sound EVERYTIME you get going for the day, is..completely outrages. we pay for vehicles [and we pay a great deal] that shouldnt be sh*tty quality right off the assembly line. i at least want to know i EARNED those sqweaky/grindy ass breaks!! haha! anyway i still have the problem, haven't tried to do anything about it really, just because i can stop....lately i just turn my system up REAL loud so i dont have to hear them those first few stops :]

The brakes rust overnight or after sitting a few hours. Sounds horrible the first few stops everyday. After the rust is worn off, no problem.

I should have reported this problem when it first start occurring. My brakes have been noisy since day one when I purhased the car. I got the 2002 dodge neon in August of that year. Not long after when I would start up the car and begin driving my brakes would squeal/squeak. My mom, brother and everyone else told me to get them checked out. So I went to my dealer and explained the problem to them. They checked everything out and said it was fine and that it was probably brakes dust causing them to squeak. So I said "ok, can you clean them?" They cleaned the brakes for free for me once and stated I would be charged next time because brakes are not covered or I would be charged for labor (dont remember which one). After the cleaning the problem would cease but then return. Everytime I got an oil change I mentioned the problem. So now its 2007 and I just had a brake job done from Midas on 1-27-07 because it was time. Now, my left caliber is busted because my fluid is leaking and I took it to midas and they stated it was a problem with the caliber. I am unsure if the work Midas did caused the problem with the caliber. But bottom line is the brake system on this car sucks ass. I mean who has ever heard of brakes squeaking without them needing to be replaced? That is crazy in my book but I think Dodge should be held responsible for this problem and see to it that it is corrected because cleaning out the dust resolves the problem. So obviously there is something wrong with the design if the brake system that would cause dust to get trapped and cause brakes to squeak. At least it seems that way to me.

I have had my car in the shop seven times. Everythime Chrysler said that there was nothing with my car. Now I gave up. What else can I do. Chrysler informed me that they will charge my $70 an hour just to look at the car. Great customer service Chrysler!

Brakes started screeching every now and then--worse when it is rainy. I had them checked and was told they were fine. They told me was probably a weather problem but people riding in my car often comment "that sounds really bad--you better have that looked at." It's definitely irritating.

I have a Neon, my sister has a Neon and my girlfriend has a Neon. All 3 of us have to deal with that lovely squeal from the brakes for about the first 5 - 10 minutes that you are driving the car. Then it seems to loosen up and the squeal goes away...til the next morning. I don't know how many times I've been told that I need new brakes by passenger's ( normally males who don't think I notice the sound? ) It's a Neon thing and it's annoying. I currently have my Neon in getting the bearings done..again. It cost me $2500 2 years ago to get the transmission fixed..they said I needed the transmission celluloid replaced and a major seal replaced. Under warranty during the first year, Dodge had to replace all the heads. I can see why they quit manufacturing this car. Next time I think I'll look at a Nissan
