I bought my 2003 Dodge Neon Jan 1, 2004. A year and a half to two years after I bought the car the engine light came on so I took it to the dealership to have it fixed. They replaced a bunch of spark plugs and other stuff and charged me $1,119 which I am sure now was unnecessary because a year later it came back on again. I then took it somewhere else to see if they could figure out why this was happening and find a fix. They ran every test there possibly was and could never really figure out the cause. There was nothing wrong with my car and they didn't even really know how to fix it. I was told once by a mechanic that other people who have Dodge Neons were having the same problem. That it was the computer. If that is the case then I think they were built with defective computers. Recently, last week I took it somewhere else to have it fixed. An hour after getting the car back the engine light came on again. I took it back and was told that an air plug was not plugged in well. They plugged it back in and for now it is off. We will see how long that lasts. It has even gotten to the point now just for me to pass emissions every year I have to get my boyfriend to take out the battery and reset the computer. This will turn the engine light off. However, this only lasts temporarily. A few hrs, a day, maybe 2 days at the most, then it comes back on again.

About 3 weeks ago my check engine light came on. So I took it into the shop and they said that I needed new spark plugs. So I had them changed. 2 days later the light came back on and my car started to idle really rough.

So back to the shop. He said that the spark plugs were the wrong ones. So he changed those and changed the spark plug wires. Well the light came back that night. Now the light flashes at me when I idle and stops flashing once I start moving.

I’m SO frustrated!! WTF is wrong with my car???
