Dash is all cracked to pieces and keeps getting worse.
- Mike B., Provo, UT, US
I could not believe that I was just sitting in my truck and the dash just fell in in front of my eyes. I noticed small cracks in the dash a few weeks back but did not really investigate the severity of it. It is abosolutely a situation where as the consumer having no control over the defect that, the manufacturer, YES I MEAN YOU Diamler Chrysler, should do something about it. From one side of the truck to the other are cracks and splits and I am waiting for it all to cave in like a avalache!! I am very upset about this and have never seen anything like it before, and no one else I have spoke to has either. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL!!
- Patricia B., Ferndale, MI, US
The dash started with a one little crack, then many more started forming and converging. Now entire chunks of my dash have fallen apart. It is very dangerous as there are sharp shards of plastic. I frequently use a windshield shade to protect my dash, but apparently this dash is just crap and from what I hear there are thousands of people with this same problem. Dodge should really address this. I could pay $900 for a replacement dash, but it will be made out of the same crap material.

I bought this Dodge Pick-Up Ram 1500 new in 2000, I now have a problem with my A/C and have not found anyone that will fix it due to My Cracked Dash. I have found out that Many Dodge Vehicles have had this problem and I feel that Dodge should replace this dash or at the least share the cost to replace the Cracked Dash. I have taken extra good care of this Truck, It looks as good today as it did the day I bought it, and now the Dash looks like Crape ! Dodge should put a recall on these cracking Dash Boards and replace the ones that are in Bad Need ! I feel that this could be unsafe and could cause major problems while driving this vehicle. I Know that Dodge could care less, But I feel that If Dodge wants to keep me in the Dodge Family,, HELP Me with this issue.
- Warren C., Rock Spring, GA, US
i want a major recall and a new dash. this is ridiculous. a bomb wouldn't have broken it into more pieces.
- Mg D., Garland, TX, US
Dash is cracking in several lines across from the windshield to the front edge.
- Steve W., Knoxville, TN, US
Purchased this truck used in 2002, looked great, still does. Kept clean, nothing placed on dash, other than occasional atlas or map. Noticed cracks in winter of 08 started with 3 running from windshield to bezal. Looks like crap. I keep thinking of getting a cover such as coverlay but with every one talking about holes and pieces falling in I'm afraid the pieces will cause damage inside and I won't know. Love the truck other than this issue.
- Kenneth C., Fort Wayne, IN, US
My truck has 52,000 miles on it and I hardly drive it. The dashboard is disintegrating before my eyes! I drove it today and it had two more major cracks! The car looks like new, the dashboard looks like it was smashed with a hammer. I will not buy another Dodge.
- Tim M., Plantation, FL, US
I would really liked this problem fixing, b/c replacing the dash board will cost me 800.0 0 and b/c this is a dodge truck problem that all dodge trucks have ,it would be real nice for Dodge to own up to it and fix it
- Nicolas F., Morton, MS, US
All I can say is that I am just waiting for the dash to fall into itself. It is just like a shattered glass or mirror. I have never seen anything like this in my entire life and I'm almost 50 years old. It is RIDICULOUS to say the least! Very Unhappy - {:o( customer!
- Renee G., Boone, NC, US
I don't even remember exactly when my dashboard first started cracking! All of a sudden the few cracks which I assumed were from the heat, became a roadmap all over my dash. While driving huge chunks would cave it or fly out. My dash is now basically destroyed and non-existent. I am unable to buy a dash cap for it because it is so bad. I tried a year ago to have Dodge fix it. I REALLY thought this was an isolated incident. I jumped through all the hoops that Dodge asked me too, then suddenly the one "who could help me" wouldn't take or return my calls.
I finally caved in and decided to just fix it. Approximately $1200!!!! I am looking into how we can start a class action suit. I can't believe somebody hasn't already. I am beginning to call/email attorneys to see if we can get someone to represent us. Is anyone else interested in doing this???
- Mike M., Hendersonville, TN, US
most of the dodge trucks ive seen have this problem it must have something to do with the company.they need to fix it
- cmef, Clarence, MO, US
The material that the dash is made out of isn't made for hot and cold weather. The material is not that of quality plastic.

Furnished two additional pictures: Damage with a current Brake Tag and the Odometor which shows TODAYS MILAGE 30,800 and change......I was QUESTIONED by AutoBeef that 15,000 was too LOW in 2005,,,,,,,,,,Well it's 2010 and it just over 30,000......ENOUGH SAID!!
DODGE KNOWS HOW SERIOUS THIS ISSUE IS!!!! IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO CORRECT SAME,,,,,I WILL CONTINUE TO TELL AND SHOW THE TYPE OF MATERIAL THEY CHOOSE TO USE, """""THE DASH IS AS THIN AS THE HOOD, AND THE WINGS OF OUR PLANE WERE THICKER! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ................
I AM NOT GOING TO FIX IT, IT IS JUST A TRUCK PURCHASED FOR HUNTING AND FISHING, THAT THE REASON FOR THE LOW MILAGE!!....
I NOW TRY TO SHOW IT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS I CAN, AS OFTEN AS I CAN, UNTIL I DIE!!!!!!!!!!! $200.00 DASH OR MILLIONS IN LOST SALES???????
ONCE AGAIN,,,,,THEY GET TO CHOOSE..............
Update from Jun 25, 2010: DODGE OFFERED TO FIX THE DASH WITH A MINIMAL CHARGE TO ME!!!.........TOOK THEM 8 HOURS TO APPRAISE THE DAMAGE. A FEW DAYS LATER WE WERE INFORMED THAT OUR SHARE OF THE MINIMAL CHARGES WOULD BE $686.00 .................A NEW DASH @ JCWHITNEY IS $213.00 AND IT TAKES ANYONE WITH A FEW SKILLS 3 HOURS TO CHANGE..........WHY DODGE GAVE US THIS RUNAROUND IS BEYOND MY ABILITY TO COMPREHEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT THEY HAVE LOST US AND ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN AS A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH, HIS NAME WAS DAVID WITH CHRYSLER. (NOT TO BE TRUSTED)

The dash started as just a crack about 2 months ago and now the whole upper portion of the dash is gone. The only solution I see is just to replace it and that is going to cost about 450.00 and dodge cant say they had no idea with the number of complaints that have been filed. I am going to take photos and post them because if Dodge refuses to make some concessions and help with replacement cost on their own we consumers should file a class action suite against them. Seems to be the only way people are getting any relief from "Big Business"

What can I say it's a significantly damaged dashboard which is quite annoying since hearing that this happened a lot.
- Irma P., Laredo, TX, US
One hot June day I went out to my truck, which was sitting in my driveway, and noticed that my dash had five large spider web looking cracks. These cracks were not done by any brute force or accident, but by merely the heat of the afternoon Michigan sun and the poor quality of the plastic. Dodge knows there was a problem in the quality of their plastic dashboards and has done nothing to fix the situation. If this doesn't get fixed through a dodge recall, this will be the last dodge product I purchase and will do my best to spread the word.
- freelandbd, Muskegon, MI, US
In these photo's my dash is dirty because I don't put any liquid on it, I'm afraid of more cracks.
Dodge knows of this issue, we as Dodge owners are still dealing with this, but what really makes me angry is that this is a safety issue. I've read where others have pieces falling into the wiring for steering, airbags, etc, with these being jammed or cut.
This has changed my opinion about Dodge drastically. I bought this vehicle due to a total loss of my GMC truck due to Hurricane Rita.
Would I recommend a Dodge to anyone? Not on your life because they don't stand behind us, the consumers.
- Cathy M., Lake Charles, LA, US
The cracked dash makes my truck look like SH*T! There is a big hole and sharp edges so there is also a safety issue.

I have been trying to look for a fix for about 2-3 years between deployments and now retired from active duty. I have discovered that this is a common problem among owners of Dodge Rams. I have mine covered with an after market "carpet". The biggest complaint is that after years of owning this Dodge the dash cracks and small particles of debris can get into the air vents and blow inside of the truck. I am concerned that the quality of air is further hampered by this "dry insulation" that is being vented into my truck cab.
