Ram 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles
I own a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD quad cab model. Due to an apparent defect in the quality of the dash pieces there are several major cracks running the total depth of my dash panel. There are cracks that go right over my passenger side air bag which cause concern over the proper operation of the air bag in the unforeseeable event of an accident. Dodge wants a ridiculous amount of money to replace the dash which I am unable to supply. They will not replace the dash as a defect product which could cause safety issues.

The dash on our 2000 Dodge Ram is cracked to pieces. Daimler Chrysler says that it's not a defect. I have researched this and found it to be common. I am worried about air bag deployment and the possibility of one of the shards being projected into someone. We bought the vehicle last year, the dash was cracked when we got it and that's why the gentleman was selling it. However, now it's falling apart. It's no longer just cracked, but in pieces. The incident date indicated is around the time we got the vehicle as I have no way to find out when the problem began.

My 2000 Dodge 1500 has a severely cracked dash. This could cause serious injury in the event of an accident with airbag deployment. I have contacted Dodge but they will not admit a problem. Complaints are easy to find on internet.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

Dash board has literally shattered!! started with what looked like a stress cracked when vehicle was 2 years old, then cracks appeared every where. Have brought in to dealer a few times to complain, but was told there was nothing that could be done. They have received other complaints but until there was a recall nothing could be done unless it was at my expense ($550). Dash is now duct taped together (what pieces remain) and have purchased a dash mat to cover. Concern is that pieces are falling through and this may cause malfunction in electrical system and/or air bags.

I bought a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 in August of 2002. In January 2003 on a fairly cold morning on my way to work, I drove over a small speed bump and my dashboard cracked from one end to the other. The crack has spread on two other occasions just by hitting small bumps in the road.

My 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 has a cracked dash that I thought nothing of for the longest time, of course I wasn't happy with the fact I had a cracked dash, but once I realized that it could actually affect my airbag at deployment it became an immediate concern.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles
Contact stated the dashboard started showing hair line cracks and have progressed into spider webbing. Pieces broke off and spilled over underneath the dashboard, including the radio, heater, and passenger air bag area. Where the pieces broke off, the dashboard was very sharp, brittle and posed a safety risk. He was afraid that if the air bag deployed one of these pieces could project and hurt someone. Because the vehicle was no longer under warranty the manufacturer and dealer offered no help. The vehicle has not been repaired. Updated 12/27/05.

My dash boar dhas cracked and is falling in.I'm scared it might catch fire with all the wires in the dash. Y back window leaked every time it rained so I had to replace it with a after market one for $325. My truck some times makes a whinny noise in reverse and I was told that is how Dodge are. Know some times when I stop and go to take off the transmission won't catch and I look at the rpms and it's showing no rpms but the truck is running.I had the truck put on the machine and nothing came up being wrong.

The dashboard on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 is crumbling. I am concerned that it will cause a failure of the passenger side airbag in the event of a crash. The Dodge dealer would not replace it unless I paid for the repair because they claimed it was cosmetic only.

The main problem with this 2000 Ram 2500 4 whdr cummins diesel, quad cab, truck is the Chrysler design defective front end. In my case, the trac-bar. This, in my area is a $439 plus tax item, the dealer steals another $75 plus taxes for installation. Two bolts hold this device in place and is only a 15 min repair. The trouble is in 30,000 km the new trac-bar has failed making it a chore to keep the truck between the lines. You dart all over in your lane depending on the pavement ruts and general pavement condition. I can see this design defect causing added stress and problems to the ball joints. This defect is a Chrysler problem and all costs to cover repairs should be covered by the manufacture and not the customer. This, and the other many, Dodge front end problems I feel is just cause for a recall order.
