The dashboard in my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup just started cracking for no reason a while back and has now degraded to the point that a large piece of the dashboard fell off exposing the inner dash area. My research has shown this to be a large scale issue with Dodge Ram pickups and other Chrysler vehicles.

My dashboard also is severely cracking we all know there is a air bag in there and when mine goes off I'm suing the hell out of Dodge. This is a extremely common problem and should be addressed.

Dashboard cracking and falling in. In approximately late 2006, my dashboard developed minor cracks. Soon the cracks got larger until pieces started falling into the dash cavity. I went to my Dodge dealer with the concern about a recall, but there were no recalls for this symptom. Dodge said it would pay 1/2 of the repair, a total of about $2,000 of which I would have to pay about $1,000. I could not afford this at the time. Since then, the dash has continued to crumble apart. Now, the air conditioner unit has a hole in the evaporator core. To repair this, the dash would have to be removed. You can imagine, the dash would be removed in pieces. I believe the crumbling dash has caused the hole in the evaporator core. Dodge should replace the dash and replace the evaporator core too. What's next" the heater core, electrical components, headlights on a dark back road somewhere" Dodge needs to take care of it's customers.

I purchased a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck in the summer of 2007. Since then it has developed large cracks in the dash and some of those cracks have led to big holes. On the outside it looks like a cosmetic problem, but in the event of an accident, it could pose a safety risk with pieces of dash flying everywhere. This is not an isolated complaint, I have found hundreds of others with the same problem from Chrysler/Dodge products.

Cracked dashboard on passenger side. This seems to be a large complaint from many Dodge owners for 2000 and 2001 Dodge Ram's. although my dash has not yet "sunk in" as others have reported I fear that if the cracks develop further it could damage the wiring and connections below. The current cracks are right above the airbag on the passenger side.

The dash board on my 2000 Dodge Ram 2400 has cracked in numerous places and is caving in. I am concerned that if the air bags deployed, passengers could injured by the sharp pieces of plastic.

The dashboard and front plate are disintegrating. Pieces are falling inside the dash body. It is so brittle just closing the doors causes additional cracks. To prevent a possible malfunction of the passenger airbags I shut it off.

The dashboard on my 2000 Dodge Ram 4X4 1500 truck has been cracking for quite some time. After researching the problem on the internet, I have observed that there are several people having the same problem. I too am now concerned that the dashboard breaking apart and potentially collapsing is a safety hazard and could affect the airbags and/or electrical systems of the truck possibly causing injury to any driver/occupants of the vehicle. I believe this is a problem that Dodge should recall and repair.

I purchased a used 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 in November 2006. At the time of purchase there were no visible defects. However, since that time the dash has cracked and collapsed almost entirely. The left front speaker and air conditioner no longer work. There was no impact or trauma that brought it on. It was at first a small crack on the passenger side that spread towards the driver side. We now have a gaping hole through middle and right side of dash with new cracks developing on the driver side.

My 2000 Dodge Ram truck dashboard is just about disintegrated with many cracks - pieces are starting to fall out which exposes the wires to sun. Dodge does not want to seem to do anything about these faulty dashboards that appear to be falling apart.

2000 Dodge Ram 1500 lariame slt- dashboard is cracking in multiple pieces and looks as if will eventually come apart exposing vital internal electrical parts. I think that this faulty part and chyrsler needs to recall /replace these dashboards. The cost for labor is outrageous because of how parts were constructed. Air bag is located in the dashboard, I wonder if this will deploy or be damaged by the continuation of the cracking of the dashboard located surrounding and above it.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 sport and the dash looks like somebody put a hand grenade on it and blew it up. It started cracking about 4 years ago and today there are more pieces of it broken off than there are still intact. I didn't think it was a very common problem but it is extremely common. I like Dodge but I would be ashamed if I were them for making something so cheap built and then not standing behind it to fix or replace it. That's not good for business especially for return customers. I think it could also be a safety risk. If those razor sharp dash pieces are launched off the dash fast enough, they could slice right through you. They should grow a set and replace these dashes!!!

Ram 1500

  • 75,000 miles
The dash started cracking on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 in mid 2005. It was never parked in the sun, so I couldn't figure out why it was cracking. I pointed it out when I took my truck to the dealership for an oil change and was told that it would cost $1400 to replace. I couldn't afford that so just hoped for the best. The cracks continued to spread, and then earlier this year the whole passenger side of the dash caved in. There is a huge hole where the dash used to be. I had no idea this was a chronic problem with this particular truck until I found this website. I believe this is a safety issue as there is now exposed wiring where the dash used to be. Dodge should be held responsible and fix this.

2000 Dodge Ram with the famous cracking dash problem. Started as a single crack over a year ago and now pieces are falling in the dash and the entire dash has cracks all through it. The entire dash is ready to fall in. I contacted Dodge's 800 number and have to take it to the dealer and then call Dodge back to see what they will do.

The dashboard of my vehicle has cracked and recently parts of it have caved in. Wires are now exposed to the elements and I believe this poses a huge safety issue if there is an electrical failure (e.g., brake lights fail). This defect in the dash has been acknowledged by Chrysler.

My complaint is in regard to my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 dashboard. It has been cracking for years and the wiring underneath is now almost 100% exposed. I have already had electrical problems and have just recently in the past month have gotten the electrical system restored. I have contacted daimler Chrysler and constantly been given the run around. Please help me as I know I am not the only consumer to have this same problem. Thank you very much.

The dash on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab began cracking about a year ago. At this time I have two large cracks that have met to form a half moon shape that is sticking up from the rest of the dash. I also ha have two smaller cracks that extend from the windshield to the edge of the dash where it curves down to the airbag. I am certain that should the airbag deploy in a crash sections of the dash were the cracks are will fly off and cause further injury to anyone in the passenger compartment.
