Ram 2500 SLT 5.9L Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,000 miles

I HAVE DRIVEN DODGE PICK UPS SINCE 1967. I bought this 1999 Dodge Ram 5.9 Cummins Diesel. Always known as the best out there. This is the second short block out there. I have had troubles since day one. It runs good for a while, then acts up leaking fuel filter at the wires 5 mechanics fix it for a little while then back to the same thing.

I never know if I am going to get from point a to point b. Last summer left it for 3 months at the shop could not find the problems I have replace the fuel filter system tightened all the ground wires, isolated the alternator, took the tank off cleaned it, replaced fuel lines banjo fittings. Always park with front down hill. Very seldom shut it off because I don't know if it will start. I am so frustrated. Every tow truck on the road has a Dodge. My friends have same problem I have and it all works for a little bit .

What happened to getting a Diesel and getting 2 or 3 hundred thousand miles? Every one out there are having problems. The gas rigs are cheaper to drive and lasts longer.

Does DODGE and CUMMINS have any pride left ? These injection pumps are a joke!

Ram 2500 SLT 5.9L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

Truck was ordered with a plow package. Had snow plow installed by a licensed mechanic. The 1st engine problem was failure of the intake manifold gasket on the underside of the intake manifold. Minor leak at first. Mechanic at Val's Motors told me that the fault lied in the computer management and that is why the motor knocked. When gasket totally failed (5 weeks later) it had internally damaged the engine. With new gasket installed, engine went back to full power, then self destructed! Then Dodge tried to blame me for it. But Dodge ended up putting in a new engine under warranty. 8,000 miles later, the 727 transmission went out after the warranty expired. Dodge said they would try to help and told me to get the transmission out, and they'll look at it. $2498 later (this is what they charged to remove it and disassemble) they told me they couldn't help. Of course now they had me over a barrel. This is how they offset their losses on the motor job! THEN, the motor started cutting out while driving down the road. Several times I took it back to be fixed, but they could never find what was wrong. This, while I am trying to plow driveways that customers were relying on me, and also trying to get to the fire station where I volunteered at. I ended up dumping the truck as I was getting a new job out of state. That was also at a loss! I hope Chrysler/Dodge go under! This is what they deserve after the way they treated a fellow American who tried to keep buying American and support jobs at home!

Ram 2500 Laramie SLT Diesel

Its hard to find the problem, no check engine lights, and a hand held that I can use are not set up to recognize the vehicle due to it being diesel. The Diesel mechanic at the two dealerships are on vacation.
