About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The dashboard around the instrument cluster, radio, and heat/ac controls is breaking into pieces. I am concerned that this will be a safety issue in the event of an accident. This is because of the sharp and jagged edges and loose material all throughout the dash area. Currently I have zip ties holding my heat/ac controls in place and 2 remaining factory screws holding my radio in place. The top portion of the dash also has failed and fallen apart over the years and due to safety concerns, I have already replaced it. I have been unsuccessful in finding a suitable replacement lower dash assembly to replace mine with.

The metal surrounding the door latch has ripped in half leaving a gaping seam and the door latch will not keep the driver's side door safely closed. Therefor, because this is a daily driver for me, I have to use a 1,000 lb cargo strap to keep the door shut until I can find a way to get it fixed.

First of all, does anyone at the NHTSA even read these complaints" much less, do they even act on these complaints? and what does it take for them to act? I too have a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 truck that has a dashboard that's been falling apart for the last five years. I have a football size hole in mine. It too, is so brittle I dare not touch it. I have read dozens of complaints on this problem from multiple sources, yet nothing is being done by the NHTSA to force Dodge/Chrysler to correct it. Why is that? do they need to wait until a serious injury or death occurs before acting.......or do you need to have multiple serious injuries or deaths"

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 with the dashboard cracking and large sections falling out. This could create flying shards of sharp plastic should I be in an accident.

Dash top cracked and broke into dozens of pieces falling into dash. The dash top is no longer usable and must be replaced at a cost of over a $1000. The loose parts could cause wiring to be damaged and other parts not to function, defrost vents are not being held in place. The new factory part will be no better after the sun and heat get to it! Dodge need to be responsible an replace the part with a better part!
