The dash just started to crack and fall apart into small and large very sharp pieces. What would happen in an accident? these sharp plastic parts could fly right into the driver and passengers faces.

The front dash board crumbled behind the front panel according to my mechanic while put on a facing dash cover to patch a crack in the instrument panel.. the dash that is protected with cover is grossly cracked. I also drive 52 year old VW bug that has started to have some plastic failure around the steering wheel, but not a single crack in the dash after 52 years in the California sun. The Dodge on the other hand failed after just 9 years, and failed catastrophically. The cracking most likely happened sooner as I had a dash cover on it and didn't think to check until the cover need to be secured with velcro again.

Possible defective dashboard, has multiple big cracks and is fatigued material, seems to be getting worse and posing a safety hazard. If vehicle were to be involved in a crash, sharp plastic shards will be projected thru cab of truck. I do have a family and their safety is a major concern. Please get back to me in reference to this matter.

Started truck up and commenced to travel to my destination. During that trip there was a loud snap and the dash pad developed a crack which has since turned into many cracks with a piece of the pad falling down inside the dash. Also the instrument bezel has since broke on the top edge where one of the pad cracks is. When I showed it to the service dept. At a local dealer right after the initial crack they said there was nothing that could be done because it was off warranty. The main cracks seem to have started at screw mounting holes. I have also had small pieces of plastic fly out of the defrost holes at times with some hitting me in the face. This issue should be a recall especially since mine started at around 24 to 25 K miles and I only have approx. 76K on it now. Also this has been a major problem with a whole lot of people. Also the seat cushions are junk. I had mine replaced under warranty and within 60 days the base support was right back where it was and I was told they couldn't replace them again.

I cleaned the dust off the dash board and noticed a crack forming from one of the vents, on the passenger side, at the windshield moving toward the interior. Today, 4/20/2012, I noticed another crack, on the driver's side, coming from the vent up over the top. It is 10-12" long already. I did an internet search and it seems that there are many others with the same problem. It appears that once this starts, the entire dash begins to self-destruct. This is very dangerous as pieces can go flying in the event of an accident and air-bag deployment.

Ram 2500 4WD

  • 104,000 miles
I am a owner of a 2000 Dodge Ram truck (2500, 4X4, ext cab 104,000K miles). My complaint is about the dash board cracking or better yet becoming brittle. Right now I have countless cracks and a softball size hole on the passenger side of the dash. I don?T dare touch the dash as I fear of it collapsing. While owning the truck I lived in buffalo NY and now South Carolina. Throughout my ownership of the vehicle I have used sun shades to protect the interior of my vehicle. I have own countless vehicles and live in AZ for 9 years and have never seen a dash break down like mine has. I will have to go to the dealership and have them replace it at my expense as it is a serious safety issue. One could spend hours even days reading about all the complaints about Dodge dash boards cracking and shattering. Chrysler/Dodge needs to be held accountable for their unsafe product designs and recall all defective models. The most upsetting part of this is I have to pay a high price to replace a faulty component for another faulty component. It's a win win for Chrysler/Dodge. My 2000 Dodge 2500 dashboard has shattered and completely fallen in. The pieces range in size from softball to slivers. I have covered the gaping hole with carpet. The lack of a dashboard has exposed wiring to the elements, the airflow to the defroster and dash vents is disrupted, and created a shrapnel hazard. There is not enough structure left for installation of a glue over dash cap and will require the entire dash to be replaced; there is a problem with the dashboards Dodge should be taking responsibility for this.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 with approx. 58K miles. The dash board developed a couple cracks a few years into ownership. At this point the dash is literally falling to pieces. Large holes have developed exposing wires and very sharp edges. Pieces will simple break off without ever touching the dash. I am unable to drive the vehicle because I feel it is unsafe to have all the exposed wiring. I would replace the dash however I am told it will do it again as Chrysler has not corrected the manufacturing process of the dash or that the new dash I would get would be old stock of the same material.

Cracked dashboard on a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500. The dashboard on our Dodge Ram has been cracked and falling in on the electrical components under the board. It is very ugly and so far we have not had any electrical problems but I am afraid to take any trips fearing being stranded because of the dashboard parts falling into the hole.

My complaint is on a 2000 Dodge 2500 for a cracked and disintegrated dashboard. The dashboard has collapsed; exposing wiring to the elements, diffusing and eliminating the defrost and dash vents, and creating shrapnel hazards to occupants in the event of a crash or air bag deployment. The failure of the dashboard progressed from two several inch cracks to complete failure in the course of 2 months.
